Why are his stats empty?

It's simple; because being 4th quarter clutch for years in the NBA, dragging a defunct franchise to the playoffs and out of the first round by yourself and leading the same team in assists is the purest components of the definition of empty.

Plus that chair he dove into going after a loose ball was also empty.

Wait....Melo is in the league? Thought some on here said he was done?

"Empty stat"?

Questions for "empty stat" guys since being one of the top ALL-TIME scorers in a pro sport is empty when not accompanied by a chip.

When on the Knicks, who did Melo have playing with him that was under 35 years old and did not have a broken hip, leg, or hand and actually amounted to or did anything in the NBA??

When Melo was on the Denver Nuggets West finals team who did he have that was able to help him beat Kobe, Gasol, Odom, young Bynum, young Ariza, and prayer shot-making Fisher?
Can't be Billups who was 32 and shot 33% from 3pt. Maybe Martin, who was solid but had zero outside shot. Probably our friend JR Smith who shot 29% from 3pt? No? Guess it was the solid complementary players like Nene, Linas Kleiza, Dahnty Jones, Chris Anderson, Anthony Carter, Johan Petro, Renaldo Balkman, and Jason hart. (All who probably went on to be recruited by LBJ and probably won several chips with him or Kobe or somewhere else)

Fact is what Melo did is far from empty. Not winning a chip was more about the organizations he played for and not his accomplishments compared to his peer group. He was a Hall of Fame scorer. That is not empty.

It happens to some careers. Lots of all time greats that for a myriad of reasons did not. Westbrook defines himself (MOFO had 24 assists last night!) as a champion of life given his journey. My take is simple that there was unabashed Melo homerism vs. the Melo Hate who wants a savior but also someone to blame. Happy to cheer and happy to Jeer. There there is the “told you so” dude who gains more by being right then winning.
Melo is and was a good guy who perhaps at times over stated his ability and then by contrast has to get the blame when it went south. Nalod long on record for not liking the deal because as you say did not have enough talent to take advantage of his ability. At the same time he held up his bargain MOST of the time. I guess if you love Melo you hav to hate PHil? Those the rules.
What every, been down this road 100 times and we’ll go 100 more no doubt.
Glad he is being recognized for his prolific ability and perhaps integrity to not chase a ring on the lakers yet.
