We have 4 picks this year. For all his ties here the kid will want to get paid. A solid back up can also preserve Luka for years to come. I don’t see Dallas letting him walk. They will pay him then could trade. Quick is still so very young far from a finished product. The “QuickSanity” is over and we now have a more normalized view of what we have. A smallish streak shooter who is not lightning quick but good get to the basket instincts. No need to label him yet. Perhaps we over estimate him given our exuberance.
A lot of IQ's falling down to earth is the fact that Rose is here and taking the minutes. We are winning games and Quickley is on a very short leash. If Thibs played him big minutes he would be putting up the big stats, but ultimately it was only a matter of time until Rose gets most of the PG minutes, with Burks getting a ton of minutes as well.
Rose goes beyond stats. He controls the pace or recognizes it. He knows when to up the rock and when to create. IQ is a rookie and in that aspect shows it. This might be why Thibs yanks him as he has to learn this. We don’t tank and we don’t let these kids off the leash. We have seen IQ yanked for reasons other than cold shooting.
Brunson was a 4 year guy in college and was very seasoned in leadership role. I’m not opposed to him as a free agent or even via trade. Maybe we give them back the 2023 first rounder? But the question is where you play him? Starter?
I like Rose off the bench with the minutes he been getting. He is invaluable at the end of games as well.
But at some point DRose will show his age and all good things come to an end. I think a 2 year contract for him is appropriate. His first stint here he was coming off his max deal and his body was not ready. For a former 22 year old MVP having to come to grips in NYC and deal with that crushing reality is not easy but he has matured into a great asset for the team.
