As for Thibs...

He pleaded for Rose to offer long-term deals to free agents such as Gordon Hayward, Marcus Morris and Bogdan Bogdanovic. He wanted to trade for Derrick Rose, a longtime favorite of his. He thought RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson could potentially be flipped for seasoned veterans. Initially, he was hardly sold on Julius Randle, according to a colleague.

“There’s no rebuilding or long term with Thibs,” a former colleague said.

This doesn't surprise me at all and is one of the reasons why I had Atkinson ahead of him on the hiring depth cart. Atkinson seems to fit more of what Aller visualizes with this roster in terms of a slow-build and smart moves that preserve cap-space. You don't hire Thibs to rebuild. You hire him to win-now and build culture. I like the culture he has instilled as it has us playing with an actual identity, one that we haven't had in years. Not a fan of his win-now-at-all-costs motives, especially with This particular team. Again, thank God for Aller. It will be interesting to see this relationship moving forward especially if we slip in the standings during the second of the season and moving into the summer.

Wes

When conversations centered around players not connected to the school — or Creative Artists Agency, where he and Rose had worked — he’d often close his eyes.

Much props to Wes for pushing for Quickley, perhaps the steal of the draft. However, during the summer, some were able to point out that the Knicks were now in bed with CAA/Kentucky. Taking a look at our roster, its hard to dispute. I just hope we don't narrow our scope on draft prospects if those prospects are not affiliated. Also, Curious to know Walt Perrins role in the Obi and Quickley picks.

Aller...

Aller, however, wanted to do exactly that. He thought the Knicks should target second-tier veterans like Austin Rivers and Alec Burks with one-year deals — and then during the season try flipping them for future draft picks. He wanted future cap space preserved. He believed current cap space should be used to harvest other team’s poor contracts in exchange for additional picks.

Did I mention, thank God for Aller. Also, I would be shocked if Perry returns...

Certainly seems like Brock will be made GM once Perry’s contract is up

Nope.

I don't know what you are all reading or reading into things.... Brock is a salary cap guru, NBA league financial rules guy, real life Larry Coon salary cap expert, all players contract encyclopedia. He is analytical and a number cruncher. Maybe he has ambitions to be a GM but that's not his role in Leon's sphere of front office.

Good GM's have Brock Aller by their side

Gives more insight into the Obi pick. Thibs was probably hankering to trade Randle for a more established star and they probably expected to have a need at the 4. As we saw in Minny, Thibs has the impulse control of a five year old when it comes to player personnel moves.

except none of that has really happened. Thibs and the FO all came away impressed with Randle during the summer workouts. That has been documented. Thibs has also been very steady with this minutes and line ups. Even when he was reunited with Rose he benched Rivers for him and Rose didnt start until Elf went down despite everyone knowing that Rose is the best PG we have.

And WTF is a "former colleague?"

We have been hearing this stuff over and over and none of it is true.
So far Thibs:
has coached guys up
has developed guys
has featured young players over vets
has let guys play their way in and out of the rotation without being impulsive
has played his favorites too many minutes

Are you watching the post games? If not you should. Thibs LOVES the young guys and goes out of his way to talk about IQ, Obi and RJ especially

Yeah, that scenario didn't play out. But it matches up with all the Randle trade scenarios we heard before the season. I'd say it's a credit to the front office and it's ability to push back against some of Thibs impulses. You saw that with the Rose trade. Leon and co. waited it out until the terms were acceptable.

Who signed Randle? This was only a good signing after you saw Randle with the coaching staff Perry didnt hire
Who signed Burks? what kind of benchmark is this?
Who drafted Mitch/RJ? same guy who passed on SGA for Knox (Mitch was a great pic tho)
Who acquired the assests for Quickley? for once we sold when you are supposed to sell
Who created all that cap space for Rose to have flexibility in pursuing FAs? this and the above indicate basic competence

This looks like an attempt to marginalize the work Perry did before Rose was hired. Get the feeling he wont be back. Which is a shame, because he made Rose's job a hell of a lot easier.

Most incoming team presidents have to deal with a capped out, injury ridden roster, with few if any future picks on the horizon. Defintely not what Rose walked into

I dont think its an attempt, I think Perry's work is marginal. Like Mike Miller his job after Mills was just dont make it any worse. Perry seems like a good exec. He was a competent GM. Lets not turn him into Jerry West. If you are giving credit there Mitch was a fantastic pic as was the contract they signed him with. Like there is nothing else that screams "we gotta have this guy back"

I like Perry. He fine. Its the guys above him and so far those moves have been much more impressive (Quickley, Thibs + staff). If Perry stays or goes its meh

Putting your words inside my quote was a serious bitch move. Fizdale wanted Knox. The rest is tripe.

I’m pretty strongly of the opinion that the Knicks will make a huge offer to Masai Ujiri. I’m fine with renewing Perry. He has done well. Just seems like the first offer will be to Masai.

You know I gonna spin wit it

Isn’t Masai running the whole show in Toronto? Granted, Leon as president is not just about the talent side. Its a business to run as well. Perhaps Masai does not like/desire that end and wants to build a hospital somewhere or have other aspirations besides running a team. Thus, being a GM might be a step down but one welcome? I can’t speak for him at all so I just speculate that him coming here is would have to be a different one than what he is doing.
Also if so Masai has to work with all the pieces in place. Leon bought in a group he knows and trusts and he would have to join in. Granted, that might be all good and he would be thrilled to walk in and work with what’s in place.
Does this dilute a talent like Ujiri? Is it the best use of his talents? Do we gauge his work solely on his record on the court or can we fairly dissect his moves and then determine he is a savior or not? He did a great job in Toronto. He also got lucky but he put them in a position to be so its not a knock. But the notion of that repeating and its why we love the guy is a bit savior/Starphuching notion.
We have no idea if Brock Aller has a any nose for talent evaluation outside of the numbers. The Assistant GM, Zannin I think it is might be next up. Walt Perrin is also heavy in this group and while he might not be “Defacto” the GM he might be doing some heavy lifting in this group.
Leon might be looking at this very long term and wants younger guys in place to step up and this is how you build a culture. I don’t know. Brining him a big outside alpha like Masai Ujiri is a great idea on paper but there are situations that would be or have been addressed prior. If its a fit, sure. As a fan I have to ask myself besides a name associated with winning what else should I be considering? Not to rain on the parade but is the raptors about to enter a dark period and he is not into a rebuild and jumping ship? Did he leverage the Chip too much? Lets just say if Durant and Klay don’t break in the finals, and Toronto does not win, then Kawahi leaves and Siakim is over paid under performer does that taint the job he did over prior seasons when they could not advance to finals? Ok, they squeak by 76ers which was big but lose finals the franchise then has to rebuild. Did owners want a more graceful rebuild or are they depleted and few FA’s will go there? IM not saying what I would or would not do. chips are important of course. But one might say Ujiri played with house money, won, now is cashing in and leaving for greener pastures.
We simply don’t know. For all we know Mabye Perry is being courted to run Toronto’s rebuild?

The rest is tripe.

feel free to mute me and bugger off. Sorry.. I didnt realize your posts were your "personal space." You want bitch? THAT is bitch.

Dude asks a bunch of questions than tilts when someone answers. OOOOOOHHHH KAY. What a baby

You put your bitch answers under "fismike wrote" otherwise you are misquoting me *******.

GustavBahler, cut it out. Your reaction is way over the top

Understood. Dont like anyone putting words in my mouth Martin. I didnt write any of that weak crap he added under my screen name. Gives posters a license to add comments that other posters did not make.

And yet it happens all the time to lots of poster, it's a common form of response; don't know how to better express that but it's out there without malice. Maybe he forgot to bold all of it - I didn't read the whole thing with a close eye but I'm 100% sure Fish has zero interest in putting words into your mouth. We are all savvy enough to understand when responders use this method and know enough not to attribute what others add to the original.

Understood. It was too cute by half, and lazy. I believe its in very bad form to add your own words in someone's quotation, without making a clear distinction. Bolded or not. You say its a common practice, I will have to take your word for it. And respond accordingly.

damn... maybe its time to step away. Are you Scott Perry? You seem a bit triggered by someone's retort to your defense of Scott Perry's work.

Next is the part where you threaten to phuck me up in person right? Grow up

Step away? You didnt step away after insinuating that I wanted to have sex with a player. You can dish it out, but you cant take it.

And no, I had no intention of phucking you up. That would be like child abuse. But thanks for putting words in my mouth yet again.

Jeez, team's doing well for once since 2013 and instead of giddy happiness, we're getting cat fights.
For the record, martin, normally when someone "buggers up" someone else's post, they use strikeouts and "Fixed".

But I understand you and fish seem to have a unique relationship. LMAO.

"Feel free to mute me and bugger off" Sig worthy gold stuff, from the king of Christmas decorations.

Wow, didn't know fish was British...
