How will Gary position his career? Be OK with the contract and $$ Portland offers him or push for a sign and trade so he can get an opportunity for starters minutes on a different team

If you are the Knicks, what type of sign and trade offer would you proposition Portland ala Indiana/Milwaukee and Malcolm Brogdon trade?

Maybe Portland decides to trade CJ and stagger salaries and age. McCollum is 30. Not old, but Dame is also same age. Portland made Conf finals and has been in that Houston Rockets stage that could not get by Warriors or Lakers. At some point they are proactive. Maybe Trent can do much of what CJ does for less money and value is returned that could pan out down the road.

$15M is the highest I offer. We've seen this played out with THJ and Allen Crabbe already. Brogdan showed much more in his stint with Milwaukee than Trent has shown. If I'm making a Godfather offer to Trent, he has to show me more. In the interim. I'm fine with waiting for the draft and drafting Zaire, Kispet, Moody etc.

According to some of you we need shooters but

He needs to have the perfect contract

He needs to play above average defense

Be under the age of 30

No history of injuries

High character

Someone that won't take minutes away from the youth

Wants to be here

A consistent 37 to 40% 3 point shooting percentage

Can finish around the basket, and hit mid range shots.

Let me know if im missing any other attributes, and the players in the league that check all those boxes

Yeah this. Trent appears to be a high level defender who can shoot but a solid draft can get you one of those guys. In fact, we have a poor mans version under contract right now.

No, I think most people want the Knicks to get value for their cap space and have room to fill out other weaknesses. Trent is a gamble. How about we see where his game is at and let the market dictate his price. He obviously wants a max contract (the same as everybody in the league) and the front offices of the league want to pay him less. His play will dictate how far away from his targeted contract he his. Let me ask you a question? If you could have Otto Porter for about $15M and Gary Trent Jr. for $20M, who would you take?

Yeah a PG that can shoot is unnegotiable. Often times Payton gets a lot of looks on the perimeter but has to pass it up because of his inability to shoot. Bullock is another case of that as well but just a better streakier version. Getting two knockdown shooters who play defense in the starting lineup would easily solidify us for as an 8 seed right now.

both of those suck... just saying. Those guys are just not good enough for that money. Gotta do more than spot up for 3 and play hard on D
