I am still sore about Riles bailing on us, because he was a darn good coach.

I love JVG and do understand he as about to get fired in 1999. Finals run kicked a 2mm per year clause that his agent was brilliant to install and team likley had no resistance to because it was so unlikely.
JVG was great with Ewing but when the torch passed and Grunfeld wanted speedball

No going AWOL on your team because it got tough is a big red flag. Like of course you forgive him and move on but things are still going to get tough here, how do you know he won’t do it again? Furthermore he simply dosent fit the team. Definitely better offensively than Payton, but he’s still a worse defender and can’t shoot it better or create for his teammates.

He's 5 years older, still doesn't play D, but Thibs loves him. And hates Frankie.
I just don't get the connection.

Maybe Leon can get him to work on getting us Jimmy Butler instead?

yea cause its true. Riley was the star who got away. JVG was a hard worker and passionate coach for sure, but was handed an oiled machine and when it started getting creaky he bolted.

Come on! He was coach for 7 years!
That's like 7x longer than any Coach since!
Got to the playoffs every year!

What about the 12 coaches after him, it's like they all got stimulus checks, because not one of them earn a penny of their paychecks (maybe woodson).

I put Jeff on the same plane as Stan. There's a certain meme or caricature to their personalities (old school, shouldn't have flagrant fouls, etc.) which has an appeal to some, but when you look at their careers they don't withstand scrutiny as an above average coach.

If Riley stuck around i can't help but think we'd have more than one championship by now

i can't see how it would happen but Bradley Beal would look very good on this team right now; tons, tons better than D.ROse

We would obviously have to give to get. I don’t know cap mechanics well enough but I understand we have increased flexibility because we are under the floor

Package would need to center around one of randle obi or rj. All of whom I like

Wiz have to be thinking rebuild at this point and beals and Russ number are impediments

Thibs wants a vet and we need shooting

Looks like the Knicks are serious about Rose....Talks have picked up and Rose has been sitting out. This is a bad idea, IMO. My guess is that Frank is getting shipped out...BTW, Payton has a no trade clause...Cant imagine Rose and Payton holding down the pg spot the rest of the year while Quick does what exactly? Hope this isn't true...

https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/261431/Knicks-Engaged-In-Active-Talks-To-Acquire-Derrick-Rose

The New York Knicks are actively engaged in trade talks to acquire Derrick Rose from the Detroit Pistons, sources told Shams Charania and James L. Edwards III of The Athletic.

The Pistons and Rose have agreed that a trade would be best for both parties, according to The Athletic.

The Pistons have also reportedly received interest from several teams in regards to Rose.

Rose has not played since January 30th due to "rest" and "personal reasons."

Rose makes zero sense. Obviously this is Thibs pushing this but Rose’s best days are long gone.

Thibs is very good coach, no doubt, but this was one of my concerns when Leon Rose hired Thibs....

One of a handful of reasons why I wasn't a fan Leon Rose hiring Thibs...

I’m very happy with Thibs BUT if they go through with this and trade a pick I’m going to be pissed. They might as well just keep Payton and let Quickley continue to grow into a starter role

Imagine if it was Rose trying to D up Dame today. We need shooting and playmaking and they to being in a gunner who can't shoot and doesn't make plays for his teammates. Yep, make plenty of sense.

The deal is close, i see D Rose an acceptable stopgap that Thibs can work with indefinitely until the future PG is in place. Where will this put IQ in the pG ladder. Allan Hahn said Payton cant be traded.

The more important question to ask is the cost, are the knicks fans willing to part with Frank or Knox for DRose?

If the Knicks trade Detroit’s second back to them that would be dreadful. That pick is going to be in the 31-33 range

Hell no, that would be downright criminal. They can have DSJ and cash. No picks, no Frank , no Knox
