Probably really didn't have a structured offseason where he was learning usable skills for the upcoming season. He now has a professional coaching staff around him and he'd better ****ing put them to use and mature some.
Think the only thing keeping him from the starting line up is the concern of early foul trouble. Kid will be different level if he gets a consistent 15 footer.
I feel like starting lineup is such a low bar placement in terms of where Mitch should be. This is his 3rd season and we shouldn't still be talking about foul troubles.
And enough with the wild ass dribbling and 3point shot making off-season videos against high school YMCA kids. Get that 10-15 footer and jump hook down. Learn when to double, learn when to rotate, get better at organizing the defense in transition.
I had hopes he would develop into a Gobert type of defensive difference maker. However, at this point I think it's more likely he is a better version of Noel
would that be bad? I want every player to be Anthony Davis also but its not realistic. A "better" version of Noel could be pretty good. I see a version of Clint Capella, maybe better maybe not. If he's better he will be the high end rebounder/rim protector that Capella is (already a better rim protector) but also be able to smother guards on the perimeter on switches.I know that spells role player but when you see what he does on defense he's a critical piece
Hell...I don't even want him to imagine that he can be Davis. I'd be happy if he never practiced another 3 in practice again. 15 feet or less for this guy...nothing more, nothing less.
He doesn't need more than a jump hook and improved use of the backboard on short jumpers to be worth his weight in gold.
So frustrating to see him show a lack of touch in close at this point. He really isn't that far from being a borderline All Star...or at least blue chip starting 5.
Hopefully he improves, but someone has to push him hard.
