There is no way in hell Elf can start. Heck, if things are going well, he won’t even be needed to play at all. That means Frank and DSJ are finally starting to rise. If Elf is starting or getting big minutes.... then we are in big trouble for the season.

Not necessarily. Noel can play the 4. There will be times when there is enough offense, not enough stops. Noel gives us that option. The ability to put two strong defenders in the frontcourt. When stops are critical. Gives Thibs more flexibilty on the defensive end.

More importantly perhaps, Alec Burks is now a Knick. He'll get minutes. Noel may or may not contribute. IMO.

Believe his D is too good for Thibs (especially Thibs) to overlook. Pretty sure he will make Noel part of the rotation from the jump. We'll see..

Similar to Bullock & Burks whose games are similar as 3 & D wings.

Actually happy with how we have handled free agency thus far; especially how it sets us up for different scenarios going into the season and the following season.

Good move. Mitch gets 0.0 calls so when he starts this season he is going to get in foul trouble early alot so we need a similar defensive C coming off the bench.

Per @bball_ref,

Last season, only two players in the NBA appeared in at least 50 games and shot above 65% from the floor and averaged more than 2.5 blocks per-36 minutes:

Mitchell Robinson and Nerlens Noel.

They’re now both teammates on the Knicks.

Yeah, really great stuff, if there were only two rims and two rocks at our end of the court all the time...

Great signing -- keeps the defense sharp when Mitch is off the floor.

Noel is here or should be here to back up Mitch. They shouldn't be on the floor together too much..

I agree. Noel is the perfect backup center. I believe Mitch was the only reliable rim protector last year. With that said, I could see them playing together in spurts.

If it’s 10 secs left in the game and we are up by 3

Man, I think this will be an unheralded signing for the Knicks. Perfect Mitch backup, both are the same type of player so the defensive schemes in each of their lines ups will be the same.

Both of those guys can compliment Obi and certainly Randle (wish he could spread floor better though).

If Noel can even make a small developmental jump, he is gold. Also VERY tradable to a playoff team

I think this is a really underrated pick up. Noel can be a spot starter and he's really effective at times. He's going to get a chance to get big minutes and work on his game with this staff. He's 26. He should have huge value at the deadline for at team who needs a cheap rim protector. He's exactly the kind of player teams trying to get an edge give up those late #1s for (see Marcus Morris etc).

This was pre moving Ed Davis for Spellman. The plan is most likely finding a way to move Randle and sliding Spellman in that backup slot. Obi-Mitch, Noel-Spellman, Obi-Spellman.

Wow per 36mins Spellman is 15pts-9rebs-2ast, 39% from 3, 79% ft. Going into his 3rd yr.

Elfrid Payton should only line up with the Obi-Spellman combination.

Scouring the league. If Boston isn't interested in Randle with that 3 team trade. Though IMO it makes sense for them. Barring injury, OKC is the only destination that really works. But I don't see Presti giving up any assets to acquire him and may even attempt to ask for assets back. Randle & Hortford would work really really well together though. Honestly they could have kept Oubre and added Randle to go with SGA & Hortford and had a solid product out on the floor.

Randle and Harden would work well in Houston. Harden can take 50 shots per and Randle just stays in the paint grabbing rebounds and trying to score on put backs
