Isn’t it 4 years, his current team can offer 5?

Correct. Toronto can offer 8% raises and 5 years, other teams 4 years and 5% raises

It would have to be a sign and trade with Toronto. Knicks could offer Randle, DSJ etc to make the salaries match

4 years 80MM is as high as I would go for FVV. He’s a grinder and a good player, but Ibaka, OG, Lowry, Pascal, Powell all command offensive attention. He’s a solid player, but haven’t seen him carry an offense which is what he would have to do here.

NBA just go their asses handed to them in the bubble. With a shrinking cap, does it make sense to give him $25MM a year?

But, I do think I'd rather have him at 4 years $80-100M than Chris Paul or Westbrook at their age/contract $s. I think it's a safer investment, especially in the long term.

Paul only has 2 years left on his deal. Westbrook 3

For Van Vleet to really consider coming here knicks would have to offer a 5 year deal in the range of $120 million

They can’t.

I've done a 180 on FVV

With Obi on board and Mitch at C, you need a shooter, knows the PnR, and guy who can lob to those high fliers.

I'm down for a 4 year overpay

We can give him a spinning chair while he stays in the bench.

We're talking about Masai, not Mills.

He can still do damage. What if he gets excited one play and accidentally spins into OB1's knee?

Well that version of Amar’e has knees made out of Vibranium so we are lucky.

Don't underestimate the power of Randle's spins!

I think he stays with Toronto, but I do really want VanVleet- I'm fed up of only having scrub point guards/ FVV can play defense, he can shoot, he can pass, and he's clutch- an all round solid, good fit for the roster. 2021 FA is already a wash, seems like we're trying to take things to another level in the 2023 offseason, so we can afford to sign FVV to a sizeable 3 or 4 year contract (declining in value each year).

What other available PG fits well with this roster? I like Ball, but Pelicans might not trade him and he might not be able to maintain his shooting. Other options will be Rozier, Bledsoe and Hill (who wanted out of the Kings when last put on a rising team)- FVV is better than those. Next year, again there are no good options.

Exactly! We don't need a prime Derrick Rose as our PG.

We just need a half way decent of Chris Childs/Charlie Ward. To use a base ball analogy - we need a pitcher that can eat innings. Just don't go out and embarrass yourself and the rest of the roster, and that is what we have had for the last several years. There is no way we can go into the season with our PG position the way it is.

I'm all for accumulating assets and draft picks - we're still a ways off. But at some point we have to enable guys to learn how to play winning basketball.

This year should be about aiming for .400 level basketball. I know folks might slam me for that. But that would be a huge step forward, and worthy of COY & Exec of Year type talk if we can get there.

FVV is also very movable even if we overpay a bit.

He’s tough minded and if the money is similar, maybe he wants to be a star in a big market. Toronto is an amazing place, great fans, a top 5 GM and coach so I’m sure it would be hard to leave, but all of a sudden the Knicks are emerging with him on board. It’s elevates the Kentucky kid, Mitch, RJ and Toppin snd there is still room to improve the roster.

His first objective is to get paid.
