And their old patch up hitters just got old.

Now they're in a new phase - the Mets have quietly become one of the top hitting teams and have a very young productive lineup. They hit jackpot on a number of young position players, but the pitching is decidedly patchwork at the moment. Stroman's calf injury really set the team back. (the Cano/Diaz trade was probably not necessary - the Mets didn't realize they already had a 2B of the future in McNeil and could have had more prospects in the pipeline)

6 years ago let Murphy go
Last year let Wheeler go

Huge self inflicted wounds

To have the best pitcher in baseball and a decent hitting team and not compete?

Mets offense kicks in when their great pitching hits the skids. Same ol' Metsies.

I was looking at who the Giants could have picked if not Saquan. The only player I would pick is Quentin Nelson. Can't pick a guard the number 2 pick. No thank to Sam darnold either. Allen or Rosen? Nope...I think the Jints had no choice but Saquan

Very good point. I guess you could argue they could have traded down for more assets at the time. But that's hindsight...Barkley is certainly talented. And personally I prefer Jones to the quarterbacks of that draft.

um, lamar jackson?!

Um yeah. I was thinking of the 4 QBs who went in the top ten -- Lamar was picked at 32! Not going to put him in the Hall of Fame just yet or even keep Jones out of it. But Lamar looks good to say the least.

true that it is too early but jackson looks like the real deal. right now he is better than jones by a lot! another qb that is better than jones from that draft is josh allen. he may have better pieces around him but right now he is better.

the mets are the one team coming into this year that i thought would do something then here they are disappointing again. if they could not make this playoffs with the format the way it is, then something is wrong. brodie's days are numbered. i do like that he was more aggressive than sandy, who was too patient in many instances, but it produced no results. he has been here for two years and the best players on the team are still the players sandy brought ( we will see if brett batty will be any good in the future). cano was average. diaz is too inconsistent. the pitchers we signed ( wacha and porcello) are iffy. stroman trade looks like a bust. i think the most egregious thing he did was past over girardi for beltran, which blew up in his face. degrom's opportunity is rapidly closing and we need an experience manager to lead us in the playoffs with success. his ego caused him to hire beltran and then rojas. i do not dislike rojas but this is the first time managing an mlb team, different than farm teams. a change is definitely needed.

Barkley had the chance to go down as the BEST running back in NFL history. He was that good. But our offensive line was also pretty bad, coupled with some injuries.
Looking back at that draft, I either pick Barkley again or trade down. (It has been widely said we had an offer from Cleveland for #4 and their two 2nd round picks.)
But to be honest, you really can't pass on someone with Barkley's potential.

Now, I'm afraid we might have a situation like Aaron Judge on our hands, but worse. Barkley depends on his explosive lateral movement. I'm not sure his new ACL can handle that.
And I'm not sure he wants to be a power back, even though he has the build.

What a disaster and sad story. I pray for the kid. Imagine how he must feel after last year, now this?

I very much like Danny though. I'm happy with a top 10 pick and Danny. (Not Trevor Lawrence. Our line is the problem, not Danny.)

During the draft, you would have been killed if you drafted lamar ahead of Saquan, darnold, allen and Rosen. He was graded where he was drafted. Yes. I would love to have him instead of Barkley right now but for the players graded in the top 4 in that draft he wasn't even considered.

Barkley was a terrible pick. Giants roser had no talent should of traded out for picks. A RB at that point of the rebuild was so short sighted. His career is over his vision is average without his burst he is done

The Chiefs actually covered their big-ars spread.

My Bucs have been to the playoffs once (07') since the chip' in 02'. Still cant believe we have the GOAT. Just glad we're in the hunt. Beats the Jameis interceptathon.

Missed the damn game. Been getting little sleep from a bad toothache. Got it extracted, came home, fell asleep. At least we won.

You missed Daniel Jones doing his best Jameis Winston impersonation.

You're welcome. Gints are specializing in giving "at least we won" stories to the opposition... At least we held SuperTom to only 27 field goals...
