Plus here are some Buck fans reddit reviews of him from a few years ago:
He was the worst coach in the NBA. He had nonsense rotations, apparently belittled players he didn't like, and he was known to all the bars in downtown Milwaukee.
A good example of his stupidity was when Milwaukee played Cleveland this year, he told Khris Middleton to miss a FT to go up 4 with 3.5 seconds left. His reasoning? He was afraid of the "4 point play". There was literally a belief by many on the Bucks sub he was trying to get himself fired so he could get paid while not coaching.
there are always some people who liked him as a player or like the spilled drink play and try to defend him. Don't let the fans who didn't watch the Bucks the last few seasons tell you otherwise. He is not a good coach. With the Bucks specifically, he split our locker room, had some incredible mental lapses (being afraid of a four point play comes to mind) and never took any blame for his shortcomings. Instead he called the team young and said our expectations were too high.
jason Kidd was a perhaps the worst coach I’ve seen, and that’s saying something for the last 30 years of Buck’s coaches. And he made completely hare-brained decisions, the most infamous telling Middleton to miss a FT to go up 4 with 5 seconds left in a game because he was afraid of the 4 point play.
An issue I heard a lot of rumors about was that he was frequently in bars all over Milwaukee at different times of the day, which may explain a lot those decisions.
He was one of the worst coaches in NBA history
strengths: being friends with his players
weaknesses: anything about basketball
will he get another coaching job: if a tanking team tried hiring him as a coach they’d probably lose their team for blatant tanking1 year ago
He wasn’t even particularly friendly with players, he was kinda infamous for being harsh on players. Giannis, Jared Dudley, and Brogdon have all kinds commented on it, even Kidd himself admitted recently that there were issues with Jabari in particular responding to his criticism.
I think people just kinda assume former players get along with current players, but he really wasn’t a player’s coach, he is a pretty stern and taciturn dude.
He definitely had a reputation for working hard, but his defensive schemes kinda got figured out and failed over time and his offense was bland and didn’t suit Giannis. And it really seems like he didn’t have the greatest relationship with many of the players.
No idea whether any of that's true, but it comes up a lot when you look for opinions as to whether he was a good coach or not.
