That's beyond funny. That was great Kwaz.

Haha.

OK Briggs, I am now, officially saving this thread. After the next 27 games, we can resurrect this thread and see how it went. Until then maybe you could hold off saying "See I told you so" after every loss.
If you're gonna bring stuff up like this after some tough games, it's only fair if you bring up some optimistic stuff after some good W's.

The only reasonable response - blame Layden!!

Seriously, you've listed the most ridiculous outcomes possible. This isn't a worst case - it's just you feeling like doing a little provocation.

Bam!

Beginners rush to judgement. You can't expect some people to wait more than 2 games to reach a judgment about a team.

I think everybody is missing the point of this thread.
Briggs is not trying to predict the number of wins precisely.
He is just asking, "What actions would you take if you were GM,
and IF the Knicks started of 7-22 (or thereabouts)?"

5-15 after 20 is very pessamistic. That would make them a 20 win team, or as bad as Orlando was last year. The Knicks are going to have a tough schedule, but if they're a .500 team, going 5-15 (or worse) is only a 7% probability.

However if they're that bad, the East/Atlantic is still soft enough to win. Consider they would only have to be 36-26 (.580) the rest of the way to end up .500. They might be able to sneak into the playoffs with a sub-.500 record as well, and only have to go let's say 33-29 (53%). I wrote this about their marshmellow schedule at the end of the year http://www.knickerblogger.net/2004/11/10-10-optimism.htm:

In April they face only 5 playoff teams out of their last 12 games, and none in their last 6. Two of those games are against the gutted New Jersey Nets, so in theory they could win 8 of their last 12.

to answer Briggs question- it depends how the team got there.

If the losses were like the one against the celtics- its time to blow things up.

If the losses were like the one against the timberwolves- stand pat.

My take as I've already posted is that the Boston game was a disgusting loss but I've expected many disgusting losses and thrilling victories all year. It happens to all 45 win teams, especially ones with streaky players like the Knicks.

People have to realize that we are going to have a tough start because of our schedule, and there is a very realistic possibility that we will be below .500 for awhile. However, it will even out in the end. As Bonn said, there will be some bad losses, but there will also be some great wins. There is no need to get extremely excited or pissed off because of one game.
"This is a very cautious situation that we're in. You have to be conservative in terms of using your assets and using them wisely. We're building for the future." - Zeke (I guess not protecting a first round pick is being conservative)

its the media's fault.

Media don't rebound, media can't shoot, and media don't play D.

Here's the prediction I mentioned earlier. I guess the team could lose its next 16 games and confirm Briggs' 7-22 claim. I wouldn't bet on that happening, though! It's sad that someone would have this much pessimism, actually
