I would be thrilled if Ariza was played like Shandon did at Utah. Shandon would come in and guard any of 3 positions and run the floor and get easy buckets. He was a great role player for teams that always advanced. What I like more about Ariza is he's longer and looks like a better rebounder.

The funny thing is, a comparison to Shandon may actually be appropriate. Does anyone remember the Utah days for Shandon? He was a skywalker. He had a limited outside game that never developed and was a great perimeter defender. Sound familiar? Hopefully Trevor can develop an outside shot. He is slightly taller and longer than Shan, but if he can come in the next few years and emulate the success Shan had early, maybe he can luck into a huge contract that will have people griping about how overpaid he is someday........but seriously STARTING like Shan would not be a bad thing. Hopefully he can develop his offensive game a little before that.

Also, Shan is not a bad player. He has a HEINOUS contract. Just awful. But if we waive him, he will get snatched up in a hot second. Remember how Deke was supposedly a garbage player who was absolutely useless when he was on the Nets? Well, how did he look for us? Pretty good. Sometimes salary can skew perceptions. I know it's repeated a lot on this forum, but it seems to fall on deaf ears.

Yeah but Shandon wasn't 19 at the time...... See why there really isn't any comparison.

not only that, anderson never could handle the ball, or pass very well, Ariza does both pretty well, and yea the fact that he is 19 and Anderson was older, does make this a bad comparison... Anderson IMO would make a great football player..LOL...

Did you ever watch Utah play? He most definitely was. He was a game changer off the bench in their playoff run from 96-98 when they made the Finals twice.

Oh yeah...and Shan was 22 when he game into the league. While I agree Ariza is exciting, right now there's nothing to seperate him from Shandon Anderson or Gerald Wallace. And where did ANYONE hear he could pass and handle? Please guys, it's cool to be psyched about him which I am too. But to say that he's going to be better than Shandon Anderson before he plays a game is silly.

We don't need to *hear* that he can handle; we *saw* it with our own eyes in the summer league. His ball-handling is outstanding for an SF

THE Father has spoken and says you shall not compare Trevor to young Shandon. SHandon has been expelled from the flock. No one should talk about Shandon unless it supports the FATHER. THE Creator does not want to buy him out unless we have to. You Support THE Fatherif you reject nonsense about any player whom is compared to shandon.

So you are saying it is fair to compare a 22yr old (really 23 because his birthday is in Dec so he played most of his rookie year at the age of 23) w/ more than 1 yr of college experience
to a 19 yr old with 1 yr of college experience.
Herb Williams, Lenny Wilkens, and Isaiah Thomas think this kid is a steal.... I don't think Anderson was a steal out of the second round.

thats the thing... Shandon was 4 years older when he started. He was however a steal for round 2. Solid defender, good in the open court and played perfectly in Sloan's system. He was a meaningfull contributor to those great Utah teams. I do think Ariza's upside is bigger just because he's more skilled and has more size.

That's fair. But Ariza hasn't proven anything yet and Shan has proved quite a lot in New York and Utah. It seems like a lot of people on this board are judging Shan on the NJN series when he was playing out of position and was already in Zeke's dog house for no good reason. That's just unfair and a slap in the face to a guy who played hard here. I'll drink some Kool Aid, but not if it means saying '**** you' to a player who has done nothing but play hard and for the most part well.

And yeah, I saw the Summer League too, and I didn't see 'handle' or 'passing' better than Shan from Ariza. Ariza looked good, against summer league competition. Shan has looked good for the past three years as a Knick, filling in for Allan and playing solid D. I get the feeling a lot of people weren't watching THAT.

The point of this whole Ariza thing is simple. Shandon ANDERSON is GONE! They have someone just as good and with potential to be better and he is only 19! Also, he plays with reckless abandon!

How many years have we wanted Anderson gone? And now he will be, if IT keeps his word, which I imagine he will. What a COUP! Getting rid of that player. He may still help some other team but his time in NY is done. He needs to go.

Ariza is young and has tons of the P-word. He is another player that IT got that has athleticism and talent and is YOUNG. IT is making NY younger and more athletic. Great JOB! Lenny, the old vet, will teach them the fundamentals and NY will be a better team for it.

Once again Isle you show yourself as an anti-fan. Carlos Boozer was a second round pick that got people's attention, just a few years ago. Second round picks can do alot in this league. Ben Wallace wasn't even drafted. Im sure I could research a few more. Shandon turned peoples eyes 8 years ago, but got WAYYYYYY overpaid by Layden and now is considered one of the worst contracts ever. And BTW he is an example of someone who tanked after signing a big contract.

Maybe you could stop being negative for one minute and possibly enjoy something about the Knicks. But that wouldnt be your style, being an Islanders fan anyways.

I'm so sorry that you're totally incapable of mustering up any semblance of a sense of humor.

You really don't see the irony and humor in the author using Shandon Anderson as the basis of comparison for Ariza?

Excitement? Over a 2nd rd pick? Get real. You said yourself that you don't see him doing anything this year but I'm supposed to get all out of control excited over him like most people are around here?
