Where do you rank Booker among the gamechangers of the league? What tier of star is he now and what level of star do you see him settling as? Because I see him as being in his prime and still not good enough to get a reasonably talented team into the playoffs as an 8th seed; a spot currently occupied by a franchise led by a rookie and a 2nd yr player. Not to say that I don't like Booker. But at his best I see him as either the 3rd best player on a true contender, provided the talent pool is not diluted. What is an appropriate trade for Booker?
Booker is a "market max" franchise player. Meaning a franchise can build it's marketing around him and he raises the value of the entire franchises valuation. This is not the same as a "contender" level franchise player, who can carry a team to a Finals on his own. But who can really do that? Prime LBJ. Curry. Prime Durant. Maybe guys reached the edge of that in Iverson or Prime Kidd. But it's not a crime to not be one of those handful of guys.
With career longevity, luck with injuries and a compiler, could Booker make the Hall Of Fame? Yes. Would it be easy? No. Is he on track now towards that direction ( i.e. putting himself in a position for luck to help him?)? Yes
It would cost any team the kind of asset haul that would gut them to the point where they could not build an actual team around Booker. His market max status assures even teams who can't contend would be interested.
The only advantage the Knicks have is they are in the East and the Suns, in theory, would prefer to trade anyone, ANYONE, on their roster out of the West if they had a choice. But that's standard in most trades.
That the Suns are a fringe team in the loaded Western Conference isn't the worst sin in the world.
You are asking a team to trade the Knicks a future Olympian ENTERING HIS PRIME after clearly proving himself and on a possible HOF track while being locked up long term for what reason?
There is no reason. You haven't come up with a practical reason besides money. And if it came to it, the Suns would try to dump Oubre first ( then Rubio) before trading Booker if money was an issue. Booker isn't even their best salary dump option.
During the offseason of The Decision and during the Grant Hill/Duncan/McGrady offseason , how did most teams do in free agency, because lots of teams were clearing space. What is the point of trading Booker to save money to overpay a guy in FA who is 1/2 (at best) of what Booker gives you production, marketing and long term value?
