I can see where Anderson is coming from. I kind of see it from his angle and its a good one. IT created a place of tension to the point where he has to buy out Anderson. Here is the where Anderson wins. He gets bought out from his contract worth 24 million over three years. He become available to other teams and joins another team for say the veterans minimum of $1 million. Thats gives Anderson an extra million just to join the other team. He leaves a hostile environment and gets more money. Its a win situation for Anderson.

The lampe thing was lame. Lampe is only 18 coming from a mickey mouse program in europe. Blame the previous coaching staff for his bad habits, but if Isiah wanted Lampe worked harder and taught, then he would have been. To label him the press as not having good habits was covering his tracks in the event Lampe grows up big time. He can always say he had "bad habits". What, some popcorn a halftime is so bad? Hell, it ain't like he was pullin on a crack pipe in the basement? He is taking a chance with Vin, and was willing to do so with Leon, and Lampe was so much the worse? Im bias, I liked that kid! If its true he did not have to trade him that would suck. Its done, we move on!

But lets face it, Isiah has a bad side to him but as fans we won't see any impact other than a few "rude" comments. This organzation needed a ruthless SOB!

As I said before, it will come back to haunt him one day. His olympic deletion via his Airness was bad business and a shame, but Isiah wants to deal at a high level, and he got hurt.

Oh please with the "veterans have had a problem with Isiah". Reggie Miller has never uttered a bad word about Isiah Thomas. Nor has Allan Houston. Nor Penny Hardaway. Not even Kurt Thomas. When Isiah was fired from Indy, that was the perfect time for Reggie Miller to say that he didn't like Isiah and echo all of the things that Shandon has said. Instead, Reggie said nothing but good things.

Shandon's argument of "veterans have a problem with him" is weak. It's more like Shandon and Deke are players that Isiah feels doesn't fit into the program so he's looking into trades. The Celts were looking for a taker for Antoine Walker for ions and he never publically copped an attitude. Same goes for Latrell Sprewell....and even Charlie Ward. Shandon (or Deke) are not the first players that had heard their name in trade rumors. Different players handle it differently. Ask Kurt Thomas.

If the papers are correct, the first event that took place was Shandon getting the DNP. Then Shandon goes public on his anti-Isiah feelings. Then Shandon misses a game. Then the whole RUMOR (not an Isiah quote) that Shandon didn't acknowledge him in the hallways. Then the playoffs where Shandon quit on the team (4pts per with an avg. of 29 minutes). Then Shandon skips the exit meeting. Shandon never even mentioned anything about Isiah doing anything to him to make him commit these actions. Chronologically, by all accounts, the first thing that made the relationship go sour was Shandon getting the DNP.

Then this. Shandon goes to the papers with direct quotes about Isiah Thomas. The only thing that Isiah has said publically is that Shandon doesn't want to play for the Knicks anymore and he's looking into trading him. Period. That may have even been too much from Isiah. But it was hardly trashing him to the media. In fact, it was already public that he was part of the original Crawford proposel.

I agree Thelonius. This is a player who tanked horribly in the minutes given to him last year, has an untradeable contract, and has given nothing but bad feelings towards the new administration when it took over.

There is no secret he is unwanted by the teams and fans alike, and I think it's always easy to blame one person (in this case Isiah) rather than look into the mirror and reflect on why his career went so far south after he signed that large contract.

He was already a bust far before Isiah got here. Isiah didn't force him to shoot .399% in his first year here when he had shot .467% two years before. He is a perfect example of how Layden had no idea what he was doing.

And there will be no choice but to pay him 24 million to leave, so maybe a small "headache" isnt such a bad price for getting paid 24 million dollars just to go away.

I personally would never pay him, and just not let him in the building.

The DNP is what caused this and both parties are to blame for that. Shandon should not be acting like such a baby about it, but Isiah, Lenny and co. should never have ended such an impressive streak.

Lampe actually said that he deserved it and was glad he got a "wake up call",more than he imagined I guess.Isiah had just gotten the job and was trying to set a tone.Lampe,if you believe the papers wasnt working hard in practice and the popcorn thing set Isiah off.Maybe he overeacted but Id rather see him read a rookie the riot act over a lack of effort and discipline then Layden offering to get him a coke to go with his snack

My question about this situation, aside from the who did/said what to whom that we'll never learn about in the press is whether IT is consiously encouraging ill will w/ Shandon, whether the situation is out of his control, or whether he'd just being himself and doesn't care. IT seems a very controlled, controlling guy, so I suspect it's the first possibility, tho not sure exactly what's in it for him.

Here are a few possibilities. 1) makes it miserable for Shandon to be on team, so he'll take a lower buyout than otherwise would. 2) Makes a public show of it being untenable for Shandon to be on the team so management will cough up $'s for buyout. 3) Makes a statement to all other Knicks present and future that you don't cross the boss. While each of these possibilities paints IT as a controlling SOB, each also paints him as a guy who's effective at getting what he wants, which, in the end, bodes well for NY winning a championship.

I totally disagree. That game could have gone either way for NY/ATL. Forget a streak! It's about winning. Penny had it going and was doing some really good things out there. By the time the end of the game came you mean to tell me you'd say "forget about what's working for us, put Shandon in to help his streak". If you remember there was an earlier game (may have even been the very game before that) where Lenny called Shandon into the game at the end of the game to keep his streak going.

Look, the reality is, Shandon wasn't playing well. We had TT, Penny and DeMarr Johnson playing well at the 3 from time to time. Shandon was stinking it up out there and we all know it. That's why he got the DNP.

Hey, maybe Shandon know's he'll never be a star. Maybe he knows (in his heart) that he may never win a ring. Therefore, it's possible that the one thing he felt was MOST IMPORTANT was his streak. I ca understand that. But what he must understand is that a team can't bend over backwards to keep your streak going. Especially if that team is struggling. It all comes down to the W's and L's. If you're getting L's you change up your rotation and habits to get something new going. Shandon of allk people should understand this.

It's not about Shandon's streak. It's about the New York Knicks!

Even when you look at Shandon's outlook, it's ridiculous imo. "It (the streak) could have ended anywhere. But it ended in Atlanta. I KNOW it was Isiah. I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT!". How does he know it was Isiah? Why couldn't the DNP be a coaches decision like it ALWAYS IS IN THE NBA? But him saying "I'll never forget that" indicates to me that from that point on he was unwilling to cooporate with the team. That seems to have lead to the NOT speaking to the GM when you pass him in the halls etc. I'm sure Isiah DID call him a cancer after that.

And lastly, isn't the phrase "a cancer" VERY COMMON IN THE NBA? Is it just me? I hear that all the time. As a matter of fact I say it all of the time about certain players (TMac for instance). The papers quoted GM's saying that Sprewell was a "cancer" a few times. It's one of the most used phrases in the league. How does Shandon arrive at "I don't appreciate him using the term Cancer because my father died of cancer"? He's saying that as if it's not a common thing to say in this business. I don't understand.

nalod, I agree, I always liked lampe, now after seeing him play a few times more, I am backing down on my previous statements of him being a potentially great player to being a potentially good player. I think he will be better than Doleac, and sundov for sure, I definately think he is a player we should have kept, and if he was a throw in to the deal, then shame on IT for that one...

Ha! Good one! Lampe was great about it. He bought into Isiahs recommendation. I still want this kid, he was a fun kid! I hope he makes it big!

He is mobile, 7ft tall, and can shoot. A true Euro. At 18 the rest can be taught. I don't think we had that kind of time to develope hiim here. Its all been said before!

Players come and go all the time. That's just part of the business and players understand that. So why is it that there have been more than a few complaints from veteran players, whose character have never been questioned, and a coach, who has never disrespected anybody, about the way Isiah has handled that part of his job?

There's no way that it doesn't reflect poorly on the organization as a whole and affects their recruitment of players.

Agreed. There's a wrong way to do these things and a right way. Just getting rid of Shandon politely would have said everything Isiah needed to say. It's sad that the Don firing and the Shan dumping have been handled so poorly, they're really the only black eyes on a GM run that shouldn't have any YET.

I hope this isn't a shadow of things to come. This could get ugly.

Layden handled the Sprewell situation just as bad and Sprewell has a lot more respect around the league than Anderson. And that doesn't seem to be as big of a deal anymore.

I hope they can get a Shandon Anderson buyout worked out and move on
soon.

I don't agree with that, spree had a tainted past, especially after he tried to choke his coach..remember that? Layden was under pressure from Dolan because spree was not a dolan type of player and person for that matter, and spree did not help his situation, I mean the lateness to games and the usual late show to training camp, he pulled the same thing when he first got to minn... I think shandon and spree are not a good comparison...

i think Shandon has more respect around the league than Spree, at least among coaches & upper management...remember, you're talking about the same guy who choked his coach & was kicked out of the game for a year...among players, i'm sure you're right though...but players use a different scale to judge respect than professionalism & attitude...if you got game, you got respect.

just to add, Spree didn't quite handle himself well in that debacle either...his tirade at the garden was 1 of the more ugly moments of last season.

Do we always need to revert to Layden when we need to feel better about things. We are so far past that era. Isiah is an obvious upgrade, but it still does not give him free passes to be an Azzhole form time to time.
