We send the picks and Masai tells Jimmie to go **** off in a corner and he gets us contending for a chip in that same time span.

A man can dream.

If Perry made some good moves this season, that put us in a good place going into the 2021 FA summer. I would be ok with Perry staying on as president. Mills was a suit, Perry is more of a bball guy IMO.

Back to the question. Yes I would give up the Dallas 1st rounders, if it meant getting Ujiri. Perry might turn out to be just as talented an exec as Ujiri. But Ujiri has a rep with stars that would take Perry years to build. That 2021 class is special. Playing in NY with one of best execs in the league (really) calling the shots could be a game changer. The advantage of Ujiri getting the job sooner rather than later is that Ujiri has more time to put the right people in place, to see how things are done at MSG, evaluate players, make changes, etc, going into summer 2021.

this is like the Melo deal... trading assets for a guy you can sign in like 20 minutes. Let Perry be the GM. We dont need to pay the Raptors for competent management. We can hire him in a year and hand him a young team with picks extra picks on the shelf.

Knicks always try to speed up time, like the process doesnt apply to them. You are right. Perry is a hoops guy. He worked under Dumars building those Det teams (and later phucking them up).

Look at the good teams in the East:
Mil: Middleton 39th pick, Giannis 15th pick
Tor: Siakam 27th pick, Powell 46th pick, OG 23rd pick
Ind: Brogen 46th pick...

OK Im tired of looking. Point is you shouldnt have to. No more trading picks. When are Knick fans gonna phucking learn??? You dont trade picks unless you are procuring a building block piece.

You're comparing apples to oranges fish. Ujiri has an entire organization to remake, more than just adding a player.

Anyway, if those 1st rounders were going to put us in a hole, were our regular first rounders, I wouldnt want to make a deal either. The more time Ujiri has to show that things have really changed at MSG, the better. Ujiri would have a lot of work to do, to change the league's opinion of the Knicks. The 2021 FA class could turn us into instant contenders, if elite players like what they see in NY.

we literally say this every time there is a big FA class. Its a nice dream, and its not impossible but I sure am not spending pick just to feel better about my chances.

right. that plan has literally failed every single time over the past decade. last year's biggest names ridiculed our team and essentially said that they didn't want to come to the knicks because our team has been irrelevant since they've played basketball

I am tired of stapling assets to **** contracts so we can pretend like stars want to play here. they don't. NY used to be advantage for endorsements - now it's a disadvantage. the team sucks and then you have to deal bermanbury and his ilk. you can play in Oklahoma City and still get your likeness promoted on every continent now. Giannis would not become any bigger of star by leaving Milwaukee, just like LeBron isn't any bigger of a name now that he's with the Lakers

LeBron going to Lakers was a money move. HE has the name, LA has the money.

Been written about for the last few years as maybe the biggest FA class ever. More than just a few good players. Wouldnt be upset if Perry was given the time to make a case to stay on as pres. Would be upset if we lost out on Ujiri to an agent. Want to see an exec with a recent track record of success.

Why did they ridicule our team? Mostly front office mismanagement. Installing at the cost of some excess mid to low first rd. picks, one of the most successful and respected execs in the league right now, with full control. Going into the 2021 FA summer, would be something we havent seen in decades. Not since before Mills. Not the same old story.

Very tough decision.

Because the stability and the acumen he brings is worth the two first round picks. However, if Giannis signs an extension this summer, it really doesn't matter who the Knicks GM is, so the right move is to stand pat. Little Jimmy needs to stay strong and not make a quick hire right now.

Perry needs to get second round picks from Philly for Bullock or Ellington. Get the first for Morris and let's get more minutes to Smith, Frank, and Knox. Someone needs to build their value out of those three. Winning 22 - 25 games means nothing for this team. Next year's free agents are very light, so we need to add the best player available and have as many assets to package in a trade for a All-Star level player.

great his contract is up in a year. We'll be waiting for him then. Ill hold onto the first rounders we traded for the only talent we have seen around here in a long time. Just my 2c

Still Dolan's team. This is not a good FA destination. Giving up picks is a no for me. No GM is luring star players here in a year.

the status of the raptors organization before ujiri came aboard was poor.

there is no other gm better thn ujiri in the league. you can find few gms in the same tier (ainge/morey) but nobody better.

i am not sure what your (or anybody's) hold up would be. ujiri's undrafted and 2nd round signings are better than many teams lotto picks including the knicks.

with all that said, this is more media hustle. don't get your hopes up.

Not the same old story.

great his contract is up in a year. We'll be waiting for him then. Ill hold onto the first rounders we traded for the only talent we have seen around here in a long time. Just my 2c

Still Dolan's team. This is not a good FA destination. Giving up picks is a no for me. No GM is luring star players here in a year.

Im good if its a year later, but I disagree that a GM/Pres. couldnt changs FAs perception of the Knicks in a year. Going a full season without any front office drama, and the team sneaking into the playoffs could do it. Not long odds with competent mgmt.

Media will get you mad. make up shyt then when it don't happen get you even madder.
Knicks don't have core pieces. Toronto at least did when he Came aboard. Knicks have RJ as a core.
The ball bounces the wrong way, Kawahi walks and Raptors chase Masai out of town.
The has a ring. can't take that away. he took the gamble an it paid off big.
KNicks can't wait another year. They need someone in place to sell the vision. Dolan needs to not be in the room when the Free agents are being wooed. He should go to Europe. Leave a letter or video conf in with a message that he will not be involved and management is not in his hands.

In a vaccuum I would trade whatever I could to get Masai. But with Dolan here, I'm not sure that it really matters who is in charge. The perception will be very hard to change.

If I'm not mistaken, Riley went as a coach -- not far removed from Doc Rivers and other coachs

Masai is good but he's made mistakes too. E.g., Jakob Poetl (our pick from Barg trade); delon wright, Caboclo ???

His second round picks have been meh and i would argue Perry has done a better job in second round in two years than Ujiri has done in his 5+ with Toronto

He certainly hit a home run with Siakim and assembling a roster based on results (rather than draft status). Also took gnads to fire (COY) Casey. Props for getting Kawhi and Gasol

That said, i don't think he totally has the Midas touch, and mixed feelings about whether he can turn around a dysfunctional organization.

If we're talking two firsts, i'd rather do that to get Budenholzer as a coach, which would be more in line with the Riley situation

the status of the raptors organization before ujiri came aboard was poor.

there is no other gm better thn ujiri in the league. you can find few gms in the same tier (ainge/morey) but nobody better.

i am not sure what your (or anybody's) hold up would be. ujiri's undrafted and 2nd round signings are better than many teams lotto picks including the knicks.

with all that said, this is more media hustle. don't get your hopes up.

I respect that you're a Raptors fan but this is his draft record with Toronto. So I'm not buying your statement about his second rounders being good. They weren't. He hit a home run with Siakim but keep in mind if he had the crystal ball vision that Siakim would turn out the way he has he would have drafted him with the 9 pick (Poltl).

2014: Caboclo
2d: DeAndre Daniels; Xavier Thames
2015: Delon Wright
2016: Poltl (Fishmike just posted the guys taken later than Poltl)
Siakim (one of the better ones after Poltl)
2017: OG Anunoby
2019: 2d Dewan Hernandez

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto_Raptors_draft_history

He's a very good GM and the sexy name but not worth big compensation. Denver has done a lot of what Raptors have done, e.g., success with second rounders etc. and is a top team (despite trading the draft slots that yielded Gobert and Donovan Mitchell). Ujiri is not a unicorn

Quick quesiton: who knows Denver's GM (without Googling). Exactly. That's the kind of GM i want. Unknown, boring but gets results (even though he too will make mistakes -- see Gobert and Mitchell)

Would you give up 2 Dallas Picks for Masai pre 2020 draft?
