Very mixed feelings about him. He definitely wants to be loved and played with passion. That's the good Enes

but also have feelings he had a little Melo-disease deciding he could only play the way HE wanted to play, and not necessarily sacrifice or adapt for the betterment of the team

Marc Gasol has played great defense in his career; if he can, how come Enes couldn't even play mediocre? Same too for Noah -- neither Gasol nor Noah were athletic freaks. Kanter is probably stronger than either.

Alot of it has to do with on-court IQ. Noah and Gasol are also two of the best passing big men I've never seen. They have a since where there are in relation to their teammates and defenders. Kanter just doesn't have that.

He said his young team mates shouldn’t get minutes but should be in d league instead. He then said older team mates were older than him so shouldn’t get minutes over him either. Selfish fool, I’ll be glad to see the back of him, think I read he’ll sign with Boston.

we sure look like a playoff team without THJ, Kanter, Burke, mudiay, Frank...(the 5 most complained about players)

Honestly, we look exactly the same regardless to who is on the floor...

Just to you really, cause you don't know what to look for and are realistically only calling balls and strikes on outcome of game.

Enes said he wanted to retire a Knick. Ii felt good to hear him appreciating NY. Then he said more words, like I am gonna do what coach wants me to do after his first benching. Then more words about ages and PT and all that. Then play me or set me free. That one i thought was brisk. The cherry was when we played DJ over him. He had nothing to say at that point. It wasn't the age afterall. Not once did he entertain the idea of maybe lack of PT was on him. That lack of ,that is that anyway, that certain hmm, well . . . . His lack of doing ANYTHING for the team. He is the anti Robin Lopes who does the work that dont show up on the stat sheet, like boxing out for your teammate. Like playing D. Maybe throwing an assist someones way? Nothin. Total me first Melo attitude. Umph, what about me, I want to be an all-star. Play me or trade me. The only reason he was in NY was because of the weight of his contract. He was basically ballast in the Melo trade, to make numbers work. He probably thought he WAS the centerpiece of that trade from the OKC side. Confused and under the illusion of his own fanfare and he reminds me of another recent former Knick because of that. He who refused to sign the rookie deal extension because there were injury clauses involved.

Kanter fooled me for sure. I'm usually good at reading people but like you said his words seemed like he was a team leader but the second he he had some minutes taken from him he became the total opposite. I miss trey Burke more because he never complained about that stuff and appreciated his time in NY. I give Kanter credit for saying goodbye properly though I gained more respect for him

Hahahahah...it hard to go in on him after that statement. Good luck on your journey Enes. I wish you success wherever you go, as long as it ain't here.

Nah, KP's agent don't think that a players brand also involves his off court interaction. Classy move by Enes. Oh, and to be a "force in the paint one has to do more than rebounding and scoring. Although if you do only that your stats will be real good. Some might think its what makes an all star. Sometimes its the player himself that thinks that. Good Luck Enes. You are gonna need it at Celts practices.

Fooled? Nah - I am sure you wanted him to succeed and improve his game. In the end he proved to be lazy and didn't walk the walk. All he did was talk and he did that well. I think he did like being a Knick, but he wasn't willing to do the boring hard work and instead wanted to go to the all star game, which really shows the motivation players have these days.

With the game speeding up, centers like Kaner (&Jordan) don't have a role in the NBA like they used to.

Don't necessarily agree with that. They can operate perfectly fine but the question remains at what salary and what is their role.

Capella can't shoot much more than at the rim but he is perfectly fine in Houston. Draymond Green is a piss poor 3 point shooter but is AOK on that team.

Capalla can be a PnR guy, plus defender and get a ton of dunks off passes from CP3 and Harden. Green makes up for his shooting with out of this world defense and passing (and his teammates make up for the scoring).

But you can't be markedly deficient at one end of the court and expect a big salary. Kanter was lucky to get his previous contract based solely on potential and his previous skill set (which is pretty much the same skill set he has now, maybe just a bit more refined). Kanter never diversified.

Kanter used to be perfectly capable of hitting a midrange shot (or has that capability) and he didn't polish that part of his game. Never added a 3point shot either. Instead (and I am guessing here) all he did in the offseason was work on his post up moves. That's nice but he is also not a passer so it's very very one dimensional. And he sucks on defense so that makes him very useless in the modern game.

He didn't evolve and didn't mask his deficiencies at all. He'll get a contract somewhere but not a good one for a playoff team. Big guess by me but I truly believe he and/or agent thought the path to a big contract was getting his points and rebounds and FG% waaaayyy up regardless of everything else and a new contract would appear. Nope.

His talk about being an all star is at the what crack is he smoking level.

I think you're agreeing with- Green, Capalla - incredibly mobile bigs who can defend the perimeter and smaller players.

Kanter can't move at the pace needed to hold his own in today's NBA. Not sure about DeAndre- probably less so at his current age.

It will be interesting to see how Gasol does in Toronto.

This is one of the reasons I'm skeptical on Fizdale. Now it's not apples to apples, but I'm also an Islanders fan, and the transformation that team has gone through - largely the same defense-poor team as last year, _minus_ their best player - is profound. They're in first place. And it's all because Barry Trotz implemented his system, and guys struggled at first getting used to it - it took sacrifice. Matthew Barzal had to change his free-wheeling game and he has (to his great credit), wherein his personal stats may have taken a bit of a hit, but the team play is worlds better.

I see none of this sacrifice from the Knicks. Hell I see no system at all that you would sacrifice to in the first place. And I have to think that if Fiz were a better coach, he would have gotten more out of Kanter, would have fostered development in our youths instead of seeing regression. I don't know. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt here, and am hoping he shows us something next year, but if we see players not buying in or sacrificing and more regression from our youth this time next year, then it's time to make a change.

The new new core: Randle, RJ, IQ. Maybe Mitch. Future pick. Future trade. Future FA.

Some very good points. Im having a hard time figuring out if this season in Fizdale's (and mgmt's) mind, is or isnt about tanking, team development, be damned. With an emphasis on the word "team"

Definitely see individual development by Fizdale, with individual players, but not collectively. But as you just pointed out, I dont see a real system either. Although there has been some improvement in ball movement, overall I also expected a more coherent offense.

What Im having trouble figuring out (time will tell) if this is a riff on what Larry Brown was known to do. Like out of "Hoosiers", break down the offense, and build it up again from scratch. Or what we see now is more or less what we will get from Fizdale as a coach. Maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle. Maybe not.

Hoping that there will be more culture building in the second half of the season. He can still creatively make substitions, while instilling more of a team concept. Still plenty of time to do that.
