Love Kyrie’s game but with Dennis Smith I would go with Klay Thompson and KD. If the Knicks don’t get the # 1 overall for Zion then would trade the assets for AD.

Pg: DSJr
Sg: Klay
Sf: KD
Pf: AD/KD
C: AD

According to Ian Begley the reason NO didn’t want KP in a trade for AD is they felt KP was not staying in New Orleans. Now ask how would a team be sure of that? Simple ... one phone call to KPs agent. Once KP finds out that he was offered for AD he says F this, I’m forcing a trade to a place I can actually grow or stay with longterm. Dallas with the Dirk and Luka connection were obvious for him.

So this isn’t about injury or anything
This is about Knicks realizing they may have a shot at AD
And then if they have AD they need even more cap so they can get Kyrie and or KD
And KP once he realized their plans - did what’s best for him.

I hope Knicks get AD ... but I’m not sure they will
Not sure they will get the free agents in the summer either

Like I said in another thread, how many other teams would have been okay with KP only signing the QO, and still would have given out 2 first rounders (including an unprotected), do a salary dump with both Tim Jr and Lee, and given up a young player with potential? Genuinely can't think of any.

KP didn’t force a trade to Dallas. Initially it was reported by Shams that he notified the Mavs he was only signing his qualifying offer. There was only one team in the nba that had 40 million in expirings, draft assets, and a young lottery pick point guard that the Knicks wanted. When KP wouldn’t commit to the Knicks, the front office sent him to the one team that could satisfy all their needs. KP had no say in where he was traded. Wojnreported that he had a list of teams that he wanted to be moved to and Dallas was not on the list.

Right now there is no benefit for the Knicks, short- or longterm.

How did they trade away the future? They gained draft capital they didn't trade it away. I can't believe how upset people are over Porzingis. I've never seen a player try to dictate the direction of a franchise in his 2nd year. The guy acted like he was Lebron James. Look at the history of the league, guys Porzingis size don't stay healthy. When he breaks down I hope yur here to eat crow.
If Porzingis is smart he will stay in Dallas. Doncic is a player that can take his game to new heights. Porzingis can camp out behind the 3 point line and let Doncic do the heavy lifting creating for his teammates. However I think Kristaps is a moron. He will end up going to the CLippers

provided an oppurtunity for them to do so.
3. There is a follow up trade that brings AD to the Knicks but that involves Enes Kanter & our pick.

I think #2 alone if true justifies the move by itself. We opened up cap space for 2 maxes easy with acquired assets to trade for 3 potentially. But even if they dont get the 3rd guy it still made sense unless there was a very strong possibility to keep him and still be able to find a way to shed enough salary to bring in another big 2. They could also believe his body type/ playing style would not hold up well and that wouldn't necessarily be an outlandish judgement.

That's a very good point that would make sense if true. Dallas probably believes it could sign him long term

And which of those teams would have given up 2 first rounders (one unprotected), taken all our crap contracts and given up a young player? Remember there's no way in hell we'd send him to the nets, from a business point of view that would be a double disaster

Probably not. The reports were we had talked to 8-10 teams with offers or parameters of offers from a few of them. It seemed like this offer was the best and maybe by a decent margin.

Initial reaction was that this trade was a joke. Helps hearing some better abgles. Fear I have is that the Knicks, as history shows, screw this up and sign 2nd tiers Faq to big contracts. Will keep the hope. Interesting on why he would pick the Nets? Understand playing for pop. Also,,seems strange that he would not like to stay with Luca.

Hopefully the new players dont ruin the tank, we get a very good draft pick, get lucky in draft and somehow het KD and Kyrie/Play. Good to be at game today.

Keep hope alive.

Feeling was that the talk regarding "Teams being unaware" was probably only teams that did not have the combined assets that were better than what Mavs offered. Trying to figure out what harm would have been done, to Mavs offer, if the Knicks would have vetted this further until trade deadline or waited until the off season when teams have more flexibility.

Probably it was just Cuban calling Dolan to scare him that he had the next Bargnani on his hands and to offer him a way out, but insisting on a response on the spot. In parallel, Dirk had already promised KP a quick way to Dallas to play with his La Liga buddy Doncic if he were to go to the FO and demand a trade. So KP wanting out and Cuban's offer crossed Dolan's desk at the same time, he as usual panicked, felt insulted and betrayed and instantly pulled the trigger on the trade without much further thought or shopping around.

I would not be surprised if the first round picks came later, after some cajoling from Perry, who was able to convince Cuban that screwing Dolan so royally was going a step too far, and he had to let the Knicks save face just bit.

I doubt that. Since Perry has been here he had had control including the melo trade. People keep acting like KP is Anthony Davis. He has had one good year and tons of injuries. The fact that we got two firsts and dumped bad contracts gives Dallas more pressure to keep KP

I think there were timing issues involved with KP's cap hold and available cap space that made it necessary to have KPs decision sooner, rather than later. It's already been stated, but there were only a handful of teams that had what needed in terms of assets and cap flexibility. A week is enough time for Janis and is team to squash deals through backchannels. Then we might risk having to settle for the deal that best suits Team Porzingis instead of Team Knicks.

But sacrificing 1st round picks for an often-injured, sweet-shooting Euro big man with an uncertain future, which Dallas has just done, also feels like a move straight out of Dolan's playbook.

And thats because it is. If KP keeps getting hurt, they have Tim Hardaway on a big contract and lose pics in the 2 of the next 4 years. It is a CLASSIC Knick move and I'm glad we are on the other end o it. I dont think its going to work out for them, but I dont relly care as long as it works out for us.
