According to espn.com, Jerry West has avoided giving Pau Gasol a contract extension because he can't decide if Gasol is worth a max contract. If you were West, would you give him a max contract?

and I love Marbury but I trade him for Gasol in a heartbeat.

I think Mr. "long and athletic" Briggs would spontaneosly combust if that was the Knick line up.

Do you really want Gasol playing center? Jerry West and the Grizzlies feel they're better off with Lorenzen Wright than Gasol at center!

no they felt they were better w/ Gasol at PF. Its not like Gasol sat so Wright could get more minutes. Swift was really the odd guy out.

Where he plays is really irrelevent. The point is Gasol is more valuable than anyone we have one our roster.

funny, but many people rank Kenyon Martin over Pau Gasol in their PF rankings, yet the same people say that Kenyon Martin wasn't worth a max contract...but Pau Gasol is worth it? someone explain that to me.

i think Pau is worth around $12 million a year annually.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

they are about the same to me... just different types of players. KMart is a far superior defender and a tougher more physical player. Both are great athletes and Gasol is more skilled and a better offensive player. KMart is more of a system guy where Gasol could freelance more.

As for the max or not question with either one I guess the real quesion is what would you have to sacrifice to max them out? If a max KMart meant I had to let Camby go then I would say its not worth it, but if maxing KMart means I cant sign Rodeny White or have to trade Skita for a shooter with an expiring contract than bring on Kmart.

If a max contract for Gasol means I cant give Brian Cardinal $7mm then Brian will have to seek his fortune elsewhere.

^ I agree with Fishmike's post although I STILL wouldn't trade marbury for gasol straight up. no way. I'd consider it, but I don't think it's the right fit for either guy. And about Kmart, he needs a good pg to have good stats, the defense will always be there but he's not a natural offensive player, although he IS trying to improve that (nailed a bunch of 20 footers at times against US). Pau looks natural on offense, not just because he can finish an alley-oop like kenyon can.
