The Knicks have averaged a new coach every season since 2001. At least 4 of them are HOF coaches. You really think the coach is the problem?
2 good players. You can say that about any ****ty team. Only 5 play at any given time. Getting 2 good players on a cash strapped team that free agents don't want to come to, that's a significant barrier.

Totally spot on. The Knicks don’t have the wherewithal to do what is right. This team is stuck in a conflict with themselves. They don’t have the fortitude to do a full on tank job and keep hanging their hat on some mythical route to the playoffs which continuously backfires in their face. No guts no glory.

Just as a frame of reference the Golden State Warriors were built on Drafting Steph Curry #7 2009, Klay Thompson #11 2011 and Draymond Green #35 2012. The Knicks so far KP #4 2015, Frank #8 2017 and TBD 2018 and 2019 picks. There’s at least potential to build a Core even without purposefully Tanking.

I disagree. Golden State got lucky that those players were available so late, they also did their homework. Tanking isn't about "need" it's a pure percentage play. Tanking increases your chances of succeeding in something that's essentially s probabilistic model. It truly is the best thing you can do to better position yourself. I only advocate tanking once eliminated from the playoffs or like this year after a major injury, but when it's time to tank, I think we should go full tilt and pull out all the stops.

Now the odds are flatter and tanking is not as necessary.
GSW also bought in David Lee as a vet. Harrison Barnes really never fulfilled his pedigree (or salary he got) so its not like they are batting 1000!
Frank was a stretch kind of risk pick. 18 years old, great measurements, good young accomplishments, mature even keeled kid......AKA: Lots of upside!!! KP was not a safe pick and not a safe commitment. He did break, might again but the upside to him is incredible even still.
Knicks are not playing it safe. I like it.

FWIW I think you're both right

Agree higher picks give you more options to choose from
But on the other hand, you see the same teams picking low year after year and they still stink because they don't have an eye for talent or know how to build a team

And the variables are not a great predictor of success.
There is thin line on draft day but man is there ever a price to pay for not getting it right. An "eye for talent" is a hell of thing!!!
Given this difficulty to trade away KP for picks is a cool idea but very hard to execute. when it does, its a beautiful thing!!!

Agreed. My issue with Meloshouldgo's take is that there's almost an assumption that the Knicks can't mimic the success of GS. We haven't had enough time yet to know that for sure.
This is just the start of that process. We only started with KP in 2015 and Frank in 2017. Now we have to see what we get this summer and beyond. It's a process that takes place over years as it did for GS. The Knicks are about to draft their 3rd top 10 pick inside 4 years. That should lead to something positive roster wise.

Philly had to commit to Tanking for MUCH longer than many franchises are willing to go. They had MANY missess. They almost struck out on Embiid. If he was unable to get his injuries under control that would've been a big issue. Of course it doesn't hurt to land a prospect like Simmons who also had his own health issue. Philly's approach is something the league is trying to make impossible.

Agreed. Toronto is pretty good and doesn't have a roster with top of the draft guys. Clips for years were always at the top and had nothing to show for it.

Cleveland had tons of top of the draft picks with nothing to show for it until Lebron and a lesser extent Kyrie (e.g., imagine if they drafed Embid instead of Drafting and trading Wiggins+ for Love)

My biggest concern at the moment is the FO. They like the prior FO sound like they have a plan -- but how will the execution be. Phil had plenty of legitimate criticisms for his execution. Court is still out on the current FO. They talk about wanting defense and two-way players with an emphasis on defense, and yet on their watch they bring in Kanter, Mcbuckets, Burke, Mudiay (who isn't even a one-way player)

They need to nail it in this draft
