Sad how far one can fall like Rose, who was one of the most adored players by fans at his peak, before the knee injuries and everything else.
It wouldn't be shocking, as some have suggested, that he might very well be struggling with some understandable mental health issues given the impact injuries have had on his game and mentality, as well as other possible variables we cannot account for.
"Stars" and "celebrities" all face the prospect of risks associated with depression linked with loss of identity when they are no longer who they were when they "were considered great," adored, "in the conversation," and can feel it is impossible or very difficult to ever be the same or produce the same type of work they once did. For Rose it happened right at his peak and it reminds me a bit of one of the main characters from "Hoop Dreams."
Many other factors can be at play as well, so it's hard to know how to predict or assume that one should just be able to cope because of the money and "success" a person has achieved before. Reminder of that achievement and identity can also be a trigger, but what happened last year when he disappeared should be a sign something is going on. His trial and behavior since make you wonder a bit about Rose that we may not quite see or know of the real truth, so we get these odd snippets.
I hope he makes the best decision for his own well being, whatever that is, and works out for him.
