Melo is great for Melo, and everyone wants to help Melo win.

Truth be told, Melo lived up to his statistical hype. "We got Melo!" What did that really mean? Dolan hyped fans.
Nice guy, statistical great player and not a player you build around, especially when you don't have the assets to do so properly.
Lance should not have to apologize for not helping Melo win.
Knicks failed Melo, Melo failed the knicks.

He goes into the HOF, who retires his number? Denver?
ONly Ewing and Dick Mcguire are the only ones that don't have rings and are knick retired.
H20 has him on on Field goals, 3pts, minutes played, 3 pts. Only free throws does Melo exceed Houston.
If Allan is not a retired knick, Melo can't!
Allan did have a trip to the finals with the knicks. Melo has played in 21 playoff games in 7 seasons, Allan 60 in 9 seasons.
Why does Nalod do this? Perspective. Melo hype from day one was never deserved. Thats always been my push back. Relax JROD, just keep building the Melo Shrine and don't defend him, just make sure you comment on those you don't agree with.
Fans are emotional. We wanted to love him. What happend on the court is all that mattered. Fact is, not much happend.

I appreciate Lances tribute and his knick tenure. He has worked hard to stay in the NBA!!!

Papabear Says

This was not Melo's fault that the team went to pot. Phil Jackson was a bad GM. So you think Porzingis is the key to the Knicks future? We will find out quite fast. Great letter by LT. Melo is a class guy. How ever we should have waited 2 years and we would have gotten him without giving up our pieces. Right now we have a very slow none athletic team. We keep kicking the can down the road.

Holiday and Lance are almost the same age. I think you are wrong about Holiday being the guy that Melo played. I also think if you get a super star at 26 and he stays healthy, management failed if the team doesn't have more success.

Melo actually was great for NY, no matter what the cool, negativity hype wants to promote.
No matter how many times you tell yourself that having him wait and play with all our great "pieces" in place that went nowhere in Denver.
We went from nowhere fast to playoffs to the 2nd round. With. NOTHING. ELSE.
No other franchise can manage to build around one max player? Sixers managed it.
Can a shiny new unicorn not carry the load within a two year period? Was that too much to ask of a once in a half-century talent? Guess so. I guess we will see how that sore knee works out as the centerpiece.
Melo greatest scorer over a longer period of time than BK. Does that get his number retired? Probably not. Does Melo care? Probably not.
Chris Dudley had a trip to the Finals. So did Charlie Football. H20 has one great running floater and not much else to remember. Other than disappearing in the second half.
The Finals were about Sprewell, not Allan.
H20 remained a good citizen and calm corporate soul, so he's still with the organization. Spree freaked out and acted like a chucklehead. Good for Allan. Melo stayed cool as well.
Maybe NALOD doesn't watch old Denver vids, but Jrod remembers when we finally got someone besides Stat, the hype around Melo wasn't quite Ewing level, but it sure nicely replaced watching reruns of Lil' Nate's dunk competition highlights.
Fans have their own worldview, which sometimes colors the facts.
Nothing happening on the court for close to a decade before Melo decides to come here. When no one else was. I guess giving points for that is just stupid, because, my god, the man got paid.

We went from IT/Starbles/Commish Intervention to Melo. Only tkf-like angry gnomes could make the case for the former being better with a straight face.

Lance Thomas knows better than any fans what went on. And it wasn't bad for NY.

I can appreciate the years of one bonafide star coming here and staying, just as much as I can appreciate the articulate honesty of an ex-teammate.

Melo did what all all-star scoring wings who are not on the MVP level would do.
He scored points.

DeMar DeRozan is an all-star scoring wing.
It would be no different if we had traded for him.

The lesson here is to value what you invest in.
Don't go all out for a scoring wing, unless he is top 5 MVP and truly dominant and unstoppable like a Jordan, Kobe Bryant (those type of players don't get traded to begin with).
If you do trade for an all-star scoring wing, you make sure you don't give up too much. Sort of like Presti did for George and Melo. 2 assets each. We gave up like 4 or 5 assets for Melo.

Invest your assets in the right places. Divide them well.

We are set up well now on the asset front.

Porzingis
Willy
Frank
Kanter
2018 First round pick
2018 Second round pick (2, one coming from Chicago via OKC)

Need to be patient, draft well and when we do make a trade, ensure we don't send off our assets below market value or in haste like we did with the Melo trade.

Lance Thomas spoke with Carmelo Anthony after he wrote a Players Tribune article that discussed Anthony as a leader and menor: "He was really happy that I wrote it. It was an emotional conversation. I wished him the best, he wished me the best and we're going to continue to follow eachother throughout our careers." On why he wrote the article, Thomas added: "I felt it. Melo has always been one of my mentors and a positive figure since I've been in the NBA. I was hurt when he left. Not only not having him as a teammate, but not having him here as one of my best friends." On the perception of Anthony as a poor teammate/leader, Thomas adds: "Anybody who has that opinion about him has never been his teammate. Has never been in a locker room with him. So he knew that. Anybody who has ever played basketball with him as a teammate or a friend, they know that. So we don't really worry about outside influences or outside opinions because we're all we got."
