Hornacek claimed he never actually thought Anthony would be dealt and has planned for him to be an integral player.

“Carmelo, all summer long when we were going through this stuff, we had him in mind moving forward,’’ Hornacek said. “I think the role is not going to change. We’re going to implement certain plays and defensive schemes he’s going to be asked to do. But if you don’t think I’m going to start him, you’re crazy. He’s a great player and still is and he’s going to lend a lot to our team.’’

EXACTLY what I said all summer long, melo never wanted to be traded, or else he would of put more than one team on his list.

so where are all the people who said I had no idea what I was talking about

I disagree that this means that Melo didnt want to go to Houston. I believe he wanted to see if the Knicks were dumb enough to repeat the Ewing trade. To move him to what would be a great destination at this point in his career, and contract.

The article was saying that Melo's team was throwing one last "Hail Mary". The entire offseason was one big Hail Mary by Melo to force a trade to Houston.

Looks like Perry is showing that times have changed. We'll see how long it lasts, but this is the kind of smart stance the Knicks usually dont take.

Yup! Knicks were the KINGS of the PANIC DEAL! This is completely different from how the franchise had been operating. This has actually helped move the Knicks back into at least a neutral position of strength versus a position of weakness.

the problem with trading melo is that he's not a blue chip player anymore (but is paid like one) and he's not a over the hill player in the last yr of a massive contract like EWING, and obviously the NTC.

so yes we are in a neutral position, and that's why phil was blowing smoke, just like he was with KP.

This is the best we can hope for at this point. The damage was already done and after we get past this and the Noah contract there is a much less detrimental outlook going forward. If Perry can make smart decisions from this point things will progressively improve for this franchise.

REALLY it's more on NOAH and melo to lead these guys in learning how to truly be winners, it's all about committing yourself, sacrificing, and teaching.

The coaching staff has a lot to do with this as well, and im holding them accountable more than the players. If anyone one player is playing half ass, I expect them to be benched regardless to who it is.

The entire reason Baker earned more PT was due to his effort on D. Same with Holiday. Jeff was on KP for not playing hard enough. At a certain point it's on the players!!! Bet we won't have to cajole Ntilikina or Dotson to give Max Effort.

Thibs yelled and yanked players plenty but at a certain point it matters if you have Max Effort players like a young Noah or Butler.

I don't know how much playing time those guys get. I thought if Melo was traded Dotson might get some time at the 3. I am not sure where his minutes come from now.

The main point is that these kids will bring it in practice and when called upon. I fully expect more effort from the vets like LT, CLee, KOQ etc. I don't think Jeff is gonna have as many issues getting BUY IN this season. He'll have a much more fun system installed and a few more players looking to prove who they are. From what I can gather this roster is pretty amped to get going.
