If that means he sits a season---thats that. Id like to play melo at a reduced role--but if the Knicks feel its in their best interests--than do what you have to do. Weve seen this in sports many times--just kep the player home until a reasonable trade comes calling. Hopefully Melo increases his trade list and everyone can walk away happy.
so keeping the player that was voted "best teammate" (by his teammates) away from the team should do the trick..smh
He also was team captain last year, was the guy that held offseason workouts, and is a vp of the player's association. I don't understand the desire to punish a guy because he is exercising the NTC that was given him. I don't know how that would fly with the league office and the player's association. It also would be a really bad look for the Knicks as an organization and the Knicks need to repair their image around the league not make it worse.
Crush--this happens a lot in sports. We gave him a NTC--yep. But Im guessing that by what various members of Knicks management did and did not day(positively)about Melo--that they do not want him as part of the team. Melo expressed that he would be open to a trade. Hes got to be fair and open that up to 4-5 teams. I think that is fair. If not--the Knicks can simply UP th ante by not including him. Players wont see anything--NY is still a great destination. The guy's making 25mm+ he can open it up so we can do a deal OR he can sit home and collect checks.
So by making him stay home, Melo's going to magically bring back something better than Ryan Anderson's tired contract and/or some other pile of steaming sheehit that will set the franchise forward? No, keeping him home lowers his trade value, and is a petty little grade school recess way of dealing with things. Play the games, eff tanking and see if KP, Willy, Frank and Butler can actually win some games, with or without Melo.
I've never understood this piss in your own oatmeal worlview of some fans. Let's not really tank, but lets start KP who obviously hasn't proven he's an NBA lead role guy yet, Willy who was -131 or something total as a starter last year, Butler, who's at best proven to be a capable backup PG, THJr. who could turn out to be this regime's Jerome James contract, and an unproven Euro teenager with great empty gym highlights. Add some flotsam, mix, shake, stir. Voila! We're going to just miss the playoffs and still get a sleeper in the draft! And that will make KP want to stay here!
You people need Melo. You want Melo. You need him standing on that wall!
