The news on the Carmelo Anthony trade front is there is no new news on the Carmelo Anthony trade front. Regardless of what unsubstantiated rumors fly out of Houston fans’ Twitter account.

The Knicks and Rockets remain at a stalemate, reports Marc Berman of the New York Post — just as Anthony is about to do a number of public appearances.

Tuesday night, Anthony will be in a place he cherishes. Not Houston, but Baltimore, where he will host The Basketball Tournament — a month-long event that is down to its final four…
A stalemate has ensued as sources indicate Anthony only wishes to waive his no-trade clause to go to the Rockets. Not even Cleveland, which is in turmoil, is good enough for Anthony as the Cavaliers are dealing with Kyrie Irving’s trade demand. The Knicks’ management tandem of Steve Mills-Scott Perry claim it won’t trade Anthony to Houston unless it cobbles together a solid deal that makes sense for the Knicks’ future. Nothing has materialized.

Anthony is likely to speak to the media at one of these events. Maybe. Even if he does, the man is polished and will not say anything particularly inflammatory.

The Knicks need leverage in these negotiations, and their one threat is they will bring Anthony into training camp and start the season with him. They may not want to, but they must have that threat to force Houston to work harder to find a third team (or fourth, someone to take on Ryan Anderson‘s contract), or to get Anthony to accept a trade to another team where a deal could get done. If Houston thinks Mills/Perry and the Knicks will eventually cave, they can wait out the summer. And that’s where we stand. Which is why the Knicks made a recent move:

In fact, a source told The Post the signing of veteran point guard Ramon Sessions partly was due to him connecting better with Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis than did Derrick Rose, who left for Cleveland via free agency.

The Knicks still want to make this trade, but they are wise not to do a deal just to get it done. They can and should be patient.

I love what this article said. One major rule of negotiating is to make it be known that you are willing to step away from the table if things don't meet your expectations. Instead of doing a bad trade I rather keep Melo and trade him at the deadline if he or a team becomes desperate. If we can't trade him at the deadline he will probably decline his option next year and leave anyway. So we won't be stuck with another teams bad contracts.

He is not opting out of his last big contract, aside from that, no team will be able to offer him 27 mill until he actual becomes a UFA 2 yrs, thast when teams will have $$, almost every mid to above avg team is capped out for the next (you guess it)2 season.

You don't see Sessions starting over Baker or an 18 year old rookie at PG?

As of right now the roster is :

Pf:KP
Sf:Melo
C :Willy
Pg:Ramon Sessions
Sg:Tim Hardaway

Courtney Lee, Frank, Noah, Kuz, Lance, KOQ, Randle, Dotson... possibly Baker.

What happens next?

Noah misses 15% of the season without even being injured, and then plays 10 games and misses the rest of the season.
Replaces Rambis on the bench before a riot breaks out.
We don't get to waste time and effort praying that Noah and Rose stay healthy and not brain dead like last season.

You must be one of the few truly brave people on the board projecting Melo starting at the 3. Not sure why, but I don't think Willy is going to start, at least not right off the bat. He was something on the order of -51 total in games he started.

Knicks will and have to trade Melo. After having him on the block for so long, comments, they will look like even more of a laughing stock. For Melo's sake , I hope that is the case. They are just waiting to have any offer that does not include Anderson or that Noah is taken back if Anderson is included. Think at end of the summer they will be forced to take anything. Even Anderson (Which would be a mistake)

Agree about Noah and Willy. The lineup should have been KP at 5 Melo at 4. It would have been interesting to see KP at 5 Melo at 4, THJR at 3, Lee at 2, Frank or Sessions at 1 this year. You would then have seen WIlly off the bench, KP playing some 4, Kuz and LT sharing some 4 and 3, Dotson at 2 and Baker at 1. And Noah as team Mascot.
But like I said, Melo is a guaranteed gonner. He is tired of experiments and the Knicks need to move on to KP trial. Hopefully they will do a better job surrounding him with talent. Dont count on it.
