I've said this many times but in terms of contracts we already have a pretty complete rotation and roster.
Hernangomez/O'Quinn/Noah
Porzingis/Thomas
Melo/Kuzminskas
Lee/Dotson
Baker/Ntilikina
Obviously we are trying to trade Melo.
However the roster and rotation is pretty much set outside of making tradees.
Any trades really aren't going to be made until Melo domino drops, first.
I think a combo guard or a 2 guard that can handle the ball is what we could use. If we trade Melo, we need an athletic 3. Outside of that, we are what we are right now. We have some young players in KP, Willy, Ntili and we just have to develop them around whatever else we have.
I for one am ready for a point guard rotation of Baker and Ntili. So what if they are young and not a star PG? We had Derrick Rose, Melo and KP last year and won 1 less game than the previous year when we had Jose, Galloway and Grant running point.
To me their names don't excite people but Baker/Ntilikina will be better than Rose/Jennings. If Baker has improved his set shooting, I would even argue we should start both of them together as they have the size and versatility to play both guard spots. Bring CLee off the bench for some bench scoring.
We really need this Ntilikina kid to be something. Whether it's on the defensive side. Some ballhandling. Some good passes. We need this kid to be ready to play 20 to 25 minutes a game right away. I think he will be. I saw his games on youtube, and I think he is more NBA ready than many realize. He isn't going to be a star right away, but he will bring energy and hustle plays as well as some point guard skills. If we were playing Galloway 20 to 25 minutes two years ago as a rookie, we can definitely do the same with this kid. He's got much more upside.
