Phil had the right idea but poor execution. Dolan was pretty patient with Phil until he could not reconcile with Melo and was creating a division with KP.

Do you really think it was just Melo? Couple of rumors that its been brewing all year. Which would make more sense. As much as I disliked the Triangle and Phils antics, I still think Phil's stature makes it hard for Dolan to just fire him because of Melo? Specially after giving him an extension. Which if I remember correctly, was at the same exact time the Rosen stuff was floating around.

Dolan was all over it.
Not saying Walsh did a good job, but when the boss gives a directive, you do it. That was his job.

Walsh could have done a better job in execution of his plan.

So hire a big name coach to lead BBall operations? How did that work out? OR maybe a big time retired player? Just don't want another "Name" with no experience. Would also help if it is someone young who eats and sleep basketball.

I get what your saying and I agree. But something is rotten in NY and everyone comes here to ruin their careers.

Since 2001 when Dolan took over, we have had 11 coaching changes. Most in the NBA.
Grunfeld, Layden, Isiah, walsh, Grunwald, Phil also in that time frame. Mills is in there as well.
The culture from SAS comes from the owner who hired Larry Brown. Buford and Pop come from Brown's tree. But its the owner who drives it.
Rockets no dynasty but Morey has been given time. Why? He is doing the owners work. Grunfeld has survived two owners. Wiz owner wanted youth movement and Grunfeld warned him you need vets too. He kept his job because he was working for the owners directive. When relented, grunfeld got some vets in and have been successful.
Most owners are self made successful people and thus see the team as an extension of their business lives. Dolan has no such acumen. He might eventually get it right and giving autonomy to phil was a good idea, but executed badly.

Walsh had a great thing going till Dolan forced his hand and made him trade the farm for melo. Imagine if Walsh was able to actually build a winning culture not traded the farm for melo, like he has in Indiana... Walsh left thanks again to the media forcing the issue to get melo, obviously Dolan reads the news and listens to the media. Then Walsh said f this you f'd up my whole game plan.

If you ask me Walsh was the smartest one of the revolving door of executives. And he stuck it to Dolan for forcing him to trade for melo, and put us in the hole we are still trying to dig ourselves out of.

Of course he could have. They hired MDA to coach a non MDA type team. Then they cleaned house after Isiah had leveraged the team to make a run at Lebron.
Then they Bring in Amare (100mil uninsured) and eventually do the Melo trade. You really think those are Walsh signiture moves? You think a GM who was forced upon Dolan has that kind of Juice???
Dolan is all over those deals. He has to be, its his money.
Owners are the defacto leaders of teams. They have not just final say, but set the agenda. ITS THEIR TEAM!!!!! Dolan wanted stars.
If a team wants to rebuild, there are financial considerations that come with losing. Owners make that call. Want to step up a contending team and add talent, he makes the decision to do so. He knows the tax ramifications of moves.
Im can see where Isiah charmed Dolan into making the moves he did and its why Dolan likley stayed loyal to him. Its because he Dolan was also culpable for the decisions.

Seriously, our players would not like this kind of old man and it is a players league, so Pop cannot be here.

The main roadblocks:

1) not that easy or others would have successfully emulated it by now
2) Dolan, he's eff it up even if it there were and easy proven model
