One of the LA reporters is denying the story.

If they are willing to deal Russell for 8, I would do it.

Willy/KP/Russell is a great young core that will share the ball and play the right way on offense. Would make this deal. D'Angelo has issuees like most young players but he's the opposite of Rose. Doesn't force anything especially on drives. Always keeps his head up looking for an open teammate. Pretty good outside shooter. I love that kid for us. The problem in LA for him from what I can tell is that they expected him to be James Harden or Steph Curry and he's not that good, but he's still a very valuable player especially as a second or third option without pressure of having to be the main man. Here he'd be coming to KP's team and KP would have the pressure to be the man and leader. Expectations on Russell have been way too high in LA. On the Knicks those expectations and pressures will fall on KP.

I'd do this without any hesitation.

agree with the bold, and you surround those guys with players who defend and you have something. Even next year if you get anything useful from Noah, +Lee, a full year with a confident Baker, hopefully we get the Lance back that Phil signed from 2 years ago... suddenly the Knicks start playing better..

tough call here. I haven't watched enough of D Russell. Is his defense awful or can he at least be average defensively? LA must be drafting Ball and don't think the 2 mix well together.

You would think that given Ball and Russell would compliment each other well. But the concern on the Lakers part is Russell is slow and can't keep up with PGs and Ball definitely won't be able to keep up with small PGs. The reason Russell is on the out is because he is slow footed and his height with out his stilts on is a detriment. Not a pg and not a Sg. Why would the Knicks want a defensive liability. Smith, Nitlikina and Monk already bring more to the table. They are fast and can keep up with opposing PGs.

Yeah, im split on this. On one hand, he can operate out of the pick and roll, shoot and is a willing passer. On the other hand, i think I could drop 25 on him lol. I might do it, but we need to find a quality defender to pair with him, in the backcourt and the wings. The move would ensure a lottery pick for next year as well.

Baker?

I hope Baker steps up, but I'm not willing to put all my egg's in that basket. If he steps up fine, but he is far from a sure thing.

Anyway, the potential for us to have two 20pt scorers under 25 years old would be very high if we got Russell. Keep in mind that Phil is actively trying to get another 1st round pick.

I don't think Frenchy is going to be a better player than Russell. I don't think Monk will either. Unless Isaac or Tatum fall, we would be better off with Russell.

The thing with French is that he could potentially give us the versatility to add a variety of different backcourt players to the team. Russell needs a particular type of player next to him. You saw what happen when they put Clarkson, who's a decent young prospect in his own right next to him. None of them were really able to thrive for most of the season.

I've been an advocate in acquiring D.Russell. Think him growing with KP & Willy is a positive; especially in the system we're looking to run. They all came in the same draft class.
Him playing next to a defensive oriented vet in Courtney Lee helps. Also if no Melo, we'll need scoring. Not sure any of the guys we draft at 8 will be better than Russell. I'd try to get the Lakers to throw in their #28 pick as well.

Responses here show we love the potential of a pick, but then devalue the actual player.
Its Russell vs. Dsmith, Monk or Frank. For all we know Lakers might be looking at sending our pick with Ingram for Paul George.

Basically nobody here wants Russell cuz some how if Lakers don't want him, he not good enough for us now? Knick fans no patience, we'd have done this with Steph Curry after two years. Bad Ankle and all.
What I don't know is what Gaines/Phil thought of Russell two years ago, and after watching his tape.
Tell me if some of you would not have traded our 2017 pick two years ago to take him?

The only reason I would trade the pick for him is because I just feel in my gut that a lot of people are overrating the hell out of this draft and the chances of a star being available at 8 are slim. Otherwise, that incident where he screwed over Nick Young. Yes, he is young but that is bothersome. He would need to be surrounded by good vets and an effective winning system that can help him grow up.

He's played for 2 years at age 19/20. He was only 18 when drafted and 17 in college. How many kids that age would you say are good at defending at the NBA level? How much defense was James Harden or Steph Curry playing their first 2 years? You have to keep this in context.

That being said I don't scout Laker games.

Heck...how much D does Harden play now...What if Russell decides to be a Harden on D?

Wonder if Harden was actually a better defender as a young player?

Hell no, not with the 8th. Russell's been lousy his first two seasons and I'd much rather take a chance on whoever's available at 8, even Monk. If we can get a later pick or two, like from Portland, I'd be willing to trade but not ours.

I dunno about lousy. He would be our best perimeter player if he was here.

I'm not a Courtney Lee fan but he's totally better than Russell. Just looking at his raw numbers, I don't see that Russell does anything well. His shooting numbers are bad, his assists and A/TO are bad, and his advanced numbers are all bad as well. A lot of people loved him coming out of college but everyone knew he had bust potential with some major red flags and right now he looks like a bust.

Wow yeah:

I'm honestly befuddled, no idea how I feel about that trade. Not a Lopez fan or a Russell fan but I know people do like Lopez so I wonder if BK could've gotten something else.

wow, that is crazy. I hate when the Nets make moves. Great trade for Nets. Lopez they wouldn't get much for and who knows with the 27th pick. Instead they get a great young player with tons of potential.

i think BK's best hopes would have been only getting 1 first round pick for Lopez so as soon as Russell hit the market it makes sense.

Why would the Lakers do this deal? 1 year of Lopez and a 27th pick in the draft? Doesn't seem like they are getting much unless they really hope to keep Lopez longer than just as a rental. I guess the Lakers just really soured on Russell and maybe they think Lopez can be their center for the next 5-6 years?
Ball,Clarkson,Ingram, Randall & Lopez. Not bad I guess.

They are clearing space for 2018. Shut, they might still be able get Paul George this off season

I guess Lakers also dump Mozgov's contract to free up for free agents. They want to sign George and still have money left to sign some others probably. If it works out with Lopez then they can use the Mozgov salary and give it to Lopez on a new deal after next yr.
