So the blazers are going to give up 3 draft picks for names like Lee Kuz and Quinn? Do better.

I dont care if we are taking back higher salary they not going to give up 3 first rd picks

Why fear? His salary is bad but the pick is worth it if they have a player they really like. Depends on what pick but KOQ for Turner and #15 would be a nice move for the Knicks.

I agree with this thinking. Turner has always been destined to be a Knicks. lol. I think Lee's contract is two much. However, the smart thing might be fore the knicks to help the Blazers do a major dump of salary by taking on several contracts. I think this would work if they renounce Rose.

Knicks

Lee
Kuz
O'Quinn
#44 pick
#58 pick

for

Blazers

Turner
Leonard
Aminu
#15 pick
#20 pick
#26 pick

I dont see how Lee fits. He doesnt save them immediate money and they already have CJ and Crabb at SG. And Leonard does nothing for us. Imo take out Lee, KOQ, Leonard and Would orobably have to ask for one less pick back

Would be nice if they're stockpiling picks to trade up, as part of a deal. An option anyway. Either way, glad to see Phil playing to his strengths.

If Portland wants to get out from under salary and we want a draft pick why in hell would we give them players also like Lee and O'Quinn?

I'm doing an analysis of Portland's motive.

First they have some albatross contracts.

Second, they want to open up cap flexibility.

I looked at both Crabbe and Turner trades - both poorly performing contracts. Turner IMO is a much trickier exchange than Crabbe.

IMO, Crabbe, Connaughton, 15 and 20 for Lee, O'Quinn, and 44 saves Portland at least $7.2M. The sum Rookie scale for 15 and 20 is approx.$3M. The difference in salary exchange is approx. 4.2M. Portland acquires two reasonably priced rotation/role players on shorter contracts that afford Portland the opportunity to keep or trade #26. It also gives them a decently positioned second-rounder who they can do with as they please - no financial constraints.

The consequences for the knicks are many. First they acquire a true long, albatross contract in Crabbe. This justifies Connaughton, 15, and 20. The $7.2M difference Portland saves is $7.2M added to Knicks fiscal obligations - this is an almost $15M total difference.

It also changes the intangible considerations in drafting. If Crabbe is penciled in at SG (based solely on contractual obligation), a PG at #8 is certainly more likely. With Connaughton in tow, Kuz becomes even more compellingly expendable. Drafting a SF and BPA at 15 and 20 becomes obvious.

This doesn't preclude a Turner trade but for Portland the savings are much less and the pieces are clunky. Why trade for Lee while you're stuck with Crabbe?

Again, its in Portland's interest to couple the pick(s) with an albatross contract and to get bang for the buck, Crabbe has to be in that discussion.

Portland owns the No. 15, 20 and 26 picks in this draft, and several teams are eager to get into that mix. The Knicks have inquired about some combination of the Blazers’ picks, a source said, and those talks are ongoing. New York has the eighth pick and could trade down for a combination of picks, though the preference for the Knicks is to keep their pick and add one of Portland’s.

I like what the Knicks are thinking

Look at Portland's salary next year. They owe $85mm to 4 guards next year in Lilliard, McCollum, Turner and Crabbe. Portland will use their picks to dump salary as they are locked into $137mm next year.

Knicks have cap space. If they send KOQ to Portland for Crabbe or Turner it kills the Knick's cap space but saves Portand $13-$14mm

What worries me most about this whole Portland thing is the Nets are also talking to them and we all know they'll give them a better offer then the Knicks will and they'll end up making a deal with them for a draft pick or two and they have a ton of cap space and no free agents wanting to sign with them either. We all know how the Nets love screwing with the Knicks.

hopefully we can fleece them by handing out Jimmy D's money

C.J. McCollum contract balloons from about $3M to about $24M next year...Crabbe and Turner about $19m & $17m respectively...Nurkic with a qualifying offer after the upcoming season.

KOQ, our #2s (or just our #2 for 2018, if we own it)and $3M for Turner, #15 and #26 would seem feasible.

A.Crabbe also has a trade kicker if he's traded just like Melo.

If the player is Harkless then only Lance Thomas makes sense. Depending on the pick in question it could save Portland $4 or $5M.

Trading O'Quinn AND Kuz doesn't seem like a smart trade nor much of a savings for Portland.

That's who they said in a espn article i read earlier but they also said they weren't sure. I really think we end up with E.Turner if we make a trade with them cause Phil supposedly liked him last off season when he was a free agent. I wouldn't mind Harkless though and actually wouldn't mind any one of Harkless, Turner, Crabbe, Davis cause i'm all about getting that 1st round pick and hopefully two of them.

While this is a good trade we would need to have moved Melo for space to be able to take these contracts.

On the flip they may not trade with the Nyets because it was there poison pill for Crabbe that hurt them the most. It would be embarrassing to then trade Crabbe and a pick back to them a year later.

Great point about the poison pill souring the Blazers on a trade with the Nets. To give them Crabbe and a pick after they did that seems unlikely.

I had a feeking since this came out that Portland leaked the negotiations in order to create comp for the pick.

Knicks need to also get on the phone with Utah. If they haven't already. They want to pay Hill and Hayward. Dumping Burks can save them 10mil this season and 20mil total. They have picks 24 & 30.

Yeah or they might do their best to get back at the Nets and kill them in a trade which the Nets are really good at losing trades. I really hope we can get something done with Portland cause getting another draft pick is what i've been wanting all along.

Could be Harkless's agent saying that. Harkless has always made noises about being a Knick but personally I don't think he's worth trading for. Trading O'Quinn is worse than lateral. They don't need Lee without getting rid of some baggage (Crabbe). Anything else ADDs salary to Portland or makes them absorb a handful of smaller contracts.

Turner is interesting but matching up salaries and complementary needs gets way more complicated than anything that makes sense.

Crabbe OTOH has a lot of possibilities. The Knicks could afford to make the trade and not look back. And a trade like this means no going back on the rebuild - both feet in the pool.

I would have to look again but I believe this saves them over 15m this year and nearly 20m after the season is over. This is minus the savings the actual 1st rd picks will take up so it saves them a boat load of money

It's not a workable trade at all. $10M off from being acceptable; http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yaezvo6o

I believe the Knicks would have to renounce the rights to Rose. It frees up 19 mil. I went to trade machine and plugged Rose into the deal with his current salary (21 mil) and it worked.
