Dolan is thin skinned, no two ways about it. He outsources thick skin to private security guards. The best owners try to find the best executives, the best people for the job. Can we really say that's ever been the case since Dolan took over? Its mostly about who is the best at massaging his ego. Phil is a big name, but was he considered one of the more talented execs in the league? No, never was an exec.
There might be some hope in that Clarence Gaines looks like he might have the makings of a good GM. Maybe we get lucky and he gets the job after Phil leaves, and Mills gets kicked up to President, where he can continue his world class enabling.
If Phil can leave Knicks mgmt and the team in a better place than he found it, then his legacy as an exec in NY will look a lot different than it does now. Its also up to Dolan to create less of an authoritarian atmosphere at MSG. Its NYC, c'mon Jim.
