Posted by BRIGGS:

you are from the NY area. it's tough to say that you would take 5mm a year instead of 10 when you realize how much you can do in terms of charity thats 5mm more per year you can use to help people. now i know there is a lot of posturing in negotiations and perhaps dampier wants to come here, but realistically taking the extra 5mm is the right thing to do. so to hate a guy who gives millions to charity via his basketball pay just because he couldnt get here via a deal is a tad shallow
You really think he's gonna give that extra $5 mil to charity?

You're also using the reverse logic of most people; you're complimenting a player for NOT taking a paycut. Should we criticize Karl Malone then for taking a paycut last summer because it meant he had less money to give to charity?

You really think he gives a damn about what NY fans will think if he signs with Atlanta?
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

Briggs, this isnt shallow, its perfectly fair for one reason. Dampier specifially said it wasnt about money, that he had made alot of money in his career and what he wanted now was to be in the playoffs every year and play for something. He's been in the league 7-8 years and never been in the post season.

Now its put your money where your mouth is. If your serious about just winning go to Memphis, Indy or NY. If you just want the $$$ then take Atl's money.
