Do we really want to do that?! He's going to have to improve a lot to be worth a max contract. I'm not saying it won't happen - it's a gamble. It's probably a gamble I would take but if you trade him for two high 1st round picks, you're getting 8 seasons of guys on rookie contracts rather than KP's 2 seasons.

On edit: I mean keeping him rather than looking for picks is a gamble I would take now. I have no idea at this point about maxing him out.

if we dont max him out we can use that money to sign 4 other guys who are more productive

KP tweets Twitter model Abigail Ratchford - "Hey it's Kristaps". AR - "Don't you play for the Knicks?" KP - "Yeah, I'm the Unicorn". AR - "Sorry dude, Knicks suck. Maybe if you played for the Warriors, they're hot". KP tweets Phil - "Fucking trade me now Phil, I'm confused". PJ - "Confusion is the doorway to enlightment, you must walk through the door to reach the promise land". KP - "Huh, what?" PJ - "The triangle has three sides. it is the cornerstone of superior attainment. One must clear the mind and remove all doubt. Embrace nothingness, it is the path to glory". KP - "Kristaps is unicorn, Kristaps plays basketball". PJ - Huh, what?".

This is the most utterly foolish suggestion I have ever read on this forum. Did you take the "bake" part of your name too literally? You must be high on crack if you want to trade the ONLY good thing that has happened to our franchise in over 15 years.

In the new CBA, players don't jump teams unless there is immediate contention on the table. KP isn't going to leave. By the time his deal is up, Melo and Rose will be gone and he will have a VERY bright future here.

The crazy part is, this isn't the first time this has been suggested here. This board has completely lost its mind. Who would have thought this season would be the tipping point.

Knixkik wrote:So the plan is to trade KP for future picks? Most likely, those picks don't turn into a prospect as good as KP. Then we're screwed again. But what happens if they do turn into another player like KP? Then we will see people here saying to trade that player for future picks? Because having a young star apparently isn't a good thing. Future picks is more enticing apparently. So every time we get lucky enough to draft a good player, we should just trade them for future draft picks, and continue to this cycle. Sounds like a lot of fun, and this is why people make fun of Knicks fans.

Every season is the tipping point.

And for some posters, every loss is the tipping point.

Still, this is the first time since the 80s we have had a legit young franchise player and some are suggesting we trade him. You really can't make this stuff up.

It's a fair question to ask, but its too early to contemplate trading him.

I think the premise would be- does KP at some point become less attractive to another team because his potential fails to materialize.

I think you can ask this again when his rookie deal is about to run out, and your confronted with a max type offer.

I know you think you're joking but it depends on how much he improves. A team with KP at the level he's at now at $40 mil a year would be inferior to one with four strong role players. If he improves a lot, it's a different story.

And we will be in this same type of mess for 3 years minimum or more likely 5+. If we can get a couple 1st rounders for him at least we won't have lost him for nothing or be forced to trade him last minute for former Bulls players past their prime.

If we can can get a whole group of good young players on good contracts via drafting with lots of picks in the span of 1 or 2 years, we might be able to sign a couple of impact free agents and make a serious playoff run in the future.

This is hands down the worst post of the season!

You have no idea how the next three years will play, let alone 5! And KP would be a restricted free agent, so tough if he doesn't want to stay.

Who thinks KP won't improve a lot more as he matures going forward? Just watching KP you can tell he's not close to reaching his peak yet. Let's remember that KP wasn't even expected to contribute for a few years!!! He's ahead of schedule.

No need to be an ass. I've explained my reasoning. You can disagree as everyone does. It's idiocy to assume you know anything about a poster from sports posts.

Please... stop sniffing the snow outside

LoL! Yes keep KP. Build around him and good times will come.

For all of you:

The OP never suggested KP wasn't going to improve or was a bad player. That makes about half of the posts here off topic.
I'm simply presenting a bad possible scenario. I'm suggesting to hedge our bets. If Kevin Durant could leave money on the table and leave a very very good Thunder team, you think it's impossible for KP to leave a team that has confusion from top to bottom every year? You want more than 2 picks? Fine. The thrust is that we convert KP into whatever equivalent asssets you can get that we'd have a easier time hanging onto. Noone in the league is untradeable outside of a few players.

His quote the other night was pretty damning. What changes the dysfunction in NY? Does Phil fire Hornacek? If so does he make Rambis his guy? Would another coach even consider working for Phil if he can't hire his own guys and is forced to run Phil's system? KP is definitely going to get better and the economics normally would dictate that he stays but who is to say things are going to get better? If the Knicks get a franchise point guard do they force him to run the triangle? Stranger things have happened. Next year is year three for KP. It looks like it is going to be a struggle and a playoff free season. If the year after that isn't better KP might just sign his qualifying offer. He has experienced a lot of dysfunction in his first two years.
