Yeah, but it's a league where most teams play one big and four wing players. We've seen the Knicks struggle with that. I'm not convinced that AD isn't a 5. I think the Pels may have two best 5s in the league... which is just weird.

I don't know if it'll work, particularly on defense.

Yeah, my big worry is that Sacramento is clearly tanking now and I'm not sure NOP is better today. Those are two teams we're fighting for lotto position with; we're only 1 game ahead of Sacramento and we're tied with NOP at 8th.

I guess the big hope for NOP, and us, is that the race for the 8th seed is a complete ****show in the West. Denver is currently has the last playoff spot and they're on pace for only 36 wins. So an improvement in talent could be enough to get them there even if the talent doesn't work well with each other.

Davis can and does guard all those guys anyway plus those guys have to guard Davis too. The only two who would really cause trouble are Lebron and Durant and it's not like they play small the whole game. Davis will spend a lot of time on Green and Love. What it really does is keep Durant and Lebron from resting on defense.

N.O. could really use Courtney Lee right now but do not have anything to give up except some futures. Which is not bad but you never know what kind of draft the future will bring.

I honestly thought the Kings would land a lot more for him- can't believe Celtics slept on this- fair enough if they land Butler, but if they don't it's a huge miss for them. I like Cousins a lot and think his antics are over blown- surrounded by vets he'll be fine (not sure ion he gets that in New Orleans.

Davis and Cousins sounds terrifying on paper, but I'm not sure it's going to work in practice. They also don't fit with the coaches style at all.

VERY true.

I mean, you need to get two first rounders for Boogie, clear cap, plus young talent. Not a 1st and a second rounder, and a whack rookie.

Davis and Cousins does not work in practice.

Won't work. They (NO) needed a great SF, not a Center. AD is a center.

That's a small package to give up for Cousins. Cousins under Pop or Brad Stevens would be better than Tim Duncan in his prime. Sacramento lost that trade.

NOP is worse, and this was a terrible trade. The only benefit for Sacramento is that the Kings did not send Cousins to a team where he would thrive and show them up.

maybe the play here is NOP signs him long term and then trades him in the season.

Honestly, trade makes no sense.

And for what SAC got for him, almost thinking we could have offered something similar.

What did they really give up besides a 1st rd pick and some below average players? Buddy Hield has looked terrible too. The more I think about the deal the better it is for N.O.

It's a big gamble since giving Cousins a huge contract is questionable from an advanced stats perspective. (He's definitely good but he's not phenomenal.) I think they have to be hoping that his efficiency will improve when he's paired up with AD.
The key issue is that the best teams have their players on bargain contracts. If you're paying a guy $25 mil a year, he better be worth at least $30 or 35 mil a year in production. Or if he's worth $25 mil a year, then you need a lot of 1st round draft picks on bargain contracts to make up for it.

dMC is talented but also one of the bigger nuts the NBA has seen

I think it was a smart move for SAC. Extremely difficult to build around a nut and more so after you would pay him 200+ million

How it works in NO will depend on how he and AD gel. If DMC tones it down and plays winning basketball it could be interesting but I'm expecting dysfunction. If it does work that is a difficult front court to match up too

Why wouldn't knicks offer a similar package with hernangomez instead of hield? Cousins, kp, melo, rose? What dominating team that woukd be. Haha.

Over blown? How is that, the team is a constant mess and SAC been wanting him gone except for the owner.
As for value, Buddy Heild was the 6th pick in the last draft, and they get this years pick. Thats essentially 2 first rounders.
Boogie is going to get a lot of money. To have empowered him with a trade, and money is what scared teams away. Value is only relative to what others are willing to spend. Evidently his talent is never disputed, but GM's know the real deal and the price reflects the risk. Coach Cal can perhaps work the Wildcat love and get Cousins to keep things in check and not eat up his coach this time.

Good points. Exactly what I was questioning. On surface it seems like an impressive move on offense but a questionable one on defense. Will be curious to see how it works out.

Still a good move IMO, as NO gave away Heid and 2 picks for an established All Star.
