I disagree.
I want some continuity.
We should try to keep Jennings, O'Quinn and Lee. All are on good contracts. Lee is making an average NBA salary right now and is one of the best shooters in the league. Jennings may re-sign for 5-6$M a year. O'Quinn's making 4.5$M a year. You can't sell good bargains. We want to have some chemistry with KP and Willy and these players, and I think all of those 3 players play well of KP/Willy. Or KP.
We'll be adding a draft pick a lottery pick. We'll probably trade Melo at some point. Not at deadline, but by the summer he is likely moved. Rose is a free agent at season's end. I'd like to get value there, but capspace can be useful if Jackson has learned his lesson from the Noah move. No more signing former all-stars in decline. Sign role players like Lee or younger players like Lopez who are quality contracts. Outside of Noah, Phil has done well in free agency in terms of who he has paid and how much.
Lets look at it this way. Next season:
Willy
Porzingis
(New starter)
(New starter)
(New starter)
O'Quinn/Noah
Kuzminskas
Thomas
Lee
Jennings
We need to get 1 starter from a Melo trade. Maybe we can get lucky like we did with KP and draft another immediate rookie starter. Phil has been smart with rookies - Willy and KP have shown they can give something as rookies right away. Willy even is starting games as a rookie. So then a third starter via the free agency money.
That's some continuity, some consistency in player development and also room to grow with having 3 new starters, Willy, KP.
I don't want whole sale changes. It's not going to help. We need to find ways to get younger with moving Melo, our own lottery draft pick and capspace. We can achieve this realistically and be in position to both be competitive and develop our young players.
