not bad. He does have some of Lurch's footwork, and some of Zach's toughness. How was Zach as a passer? McHale was widely known as the black hole of the celtic. Willy is much more of a passer, both interior passes (e.g., that over the shoulder for KP's dunk) and his zip passes from the pst to the corner

If we could get one of those PG prospects and just a good young kid I would be thrilled. I like the Nova kid a lot.. Josh Hart. I think he just knows how to play and could come in and be a spark and a darlin like Landry Fields was

This summer I'd LOVE a legit 2 Way PG and SG combo. Also a SF prospect later in the draft. We need to load up on more Athletic players that can move on D!

As for Willy this kid has some of Marc Gasol and Zebo in him. A little McHale and Laimbeer's toughness!!! What a steal.

Marc Gasol turned 24 during his first season in the league...was about 16 months older than Willy. They gave him 30MPG his first year- If Willy was getting those kinds of minutes-even 25MPG- from the start of the season, there is a pretty good chance his stats would have been comparable or better, even if early games might have been a little rocky.

You give him at least 20M in a game and his stats are almost always impressive. Of course you see mistakes, but the kid is looking more and more confident with the minutes.

I like the comparison to Gasol. Willy might be a little smaller, but with some physical maturity and experience, I don't see why he won't improve on both ends of the court, especially on offense, where he needs to improve his 8-17ft game. Not sure he has the length of a McHale, or the athletic ability at this point, but who knows.

He has a better frame to put on muscle than KP does, and you can see the beginning of a solid big man, physically. I've also been surprised at his quickness. I really thought that would be his biggest problem as a defender, but I also know from my own experience as a less than quick athlete, that with knowledge, experience, and anticipation, you can play much quicker than you actually are, and I think this is what we will see from him as a defender.

Big off-season for Willy and KP- they both need to work on polishing their offense. Dirk is on record saying that he would like to work with KP. I would love it if Willy could hook up with a McHale or Hakeem, or any known interior scorer who can give him about 3-5 more moves in the paint.

Of course, both of them need to work on their bodies, something best done with a partner who will push you- so I expect they might work together.

Does give you a lot of hope...being set at the 4 & 5 slots for the next 10 or so years is a nice start to a rebuild.

Gasol is a great comparison. Four year deal. Nice to see the Knicks looking like the Spurs.

I know he had a good game, but willy has a long way to go before he is any of these guys you guys are naming. We really need to see if he is going to improve. He has no consistent jumper, his defense (other than rebounding) is only so-so, he does not block shots at a high rate, and we really don't know if he can truly score once teams start incorporating him into the game plan. Does he have potential? Yes. Could he turn out to be a starting caliber 18 pt, 10 rebound guy? It is possible. But I will wait on it, because right now he has just had a few games. Remember when Jeremy Lin looked like he was going to be a perpetual all-star. Guys look different once teams start game planning for you.

We're allowed to be a bit excited. Willy is EARNING the early praise. He's shown in a very short time in his ROOKIE season that he has a TON of potential. That's not a guarantee and we all know that, but do you see a guy that doesn't work hard??? Do you see a guy that isn't trying to make the most of every opportunity??? Clearly he's been hustling and learning and improving to such a degree that everyone notices how he's progressing. That's the reason why we're talking about him like this.
Yes sometimes we're just making super early predictions that don't pan out but in this case we're talking about a kid that is actually exceeding expectations.

I think comparing STYLE OF PLAY is not a problem. I never would suggest that any young player is a LOCK to be exactly like a HOF player. Mostly we're talking about similarities so I don't think it's a problem. Also none of us are putting any pressure on Willy. He doesn't even know what we're saying most likely. He's got the right WOrk ethic from what I can see. His advanced stats indicate he's got very good production already for a rookie.

Agree. No problem with style of play comparisons..it's the guys that say someone is going to be MJ after just a half season,

First few games he played this season I knew they need to play this guy more often and I was impressed by how mature this guy played for a rookie. I think as the team starts incorporating him more into the offense he needs to lose fat and get more solid cause theres been many times I think he coulda finished a play if he was more in shape. Right now he creates his own offense through opportunities at his own pace and physical level... and I prefer he creates his own opportunities I want to run very limited plays for him and not get him out of his comfort zone and perhaps lower his confidence. He also needs to develop a mid range shot... that shooting style of his is horrible. He has a comfort zone and a repertoire of moves and you rarely see him stray from that and as a rookie to understand your strengths and weaknesses like he does is a big plus... on the other hand Porzingis does not and I hope he takes up Dirk's offer to work with him this offseason.

I think he could end up a very efficient 16 PPG 10 RPG 1BPG guy who goes with the flow of the game and makes his team better(already does that) and I would be estatic with that.
