Rose, at this point, would work as a salary match for a contract dump I.E. a player incoming with more years than the current team wants to have on their books. They might give a small asset to a medium asset or assets to wash their hands of basically a bad contract THAT EXTENDS PAST THIS YEAR.
Los Angeles Lakers: Timofey Mozgov, C
Remaining contract: 2016-17 — $16.0 million; '17-18 — $15.3 million; '18-19 — $16.0 million; '19-20 — $16.7 million
New Orleans Pelicans: Omer Asik, C
Remaining contract: 2016-17 — $9.9 million; '17-18 — $10.6 million; '18-19 — $11.3 million; '19-20 — $12.0 million
Minnesota Timberwolves: Nikola Pekovic, C
Remaining contract: 2016-17 — $12.1 million; '17-18 — $11.6 million
Houston Rockets: Ryan Anderson, PF
Remaining contract: 2016-17 — $18.7 million; '17-18 — $19.6 million; '18-19 — $20.4 million; '19-20 — $21.3 million
Memphis Grizzlies: Chandler Parsons, SF

Not saying the Knicks should make any of these deals, but am saying teams are always looking to dump their bad contracts and frankly if the Knicks are going to be tanking anyway, there might be enough incentive to essentially rent their cap space out for assets.
Pekovic with filler might make the most sense. His career is over. The T Wolves are dealing with a cap hit versus cash hit situation. Insurance will cover a chunk of the cash hit, but the cap hit is the bigger concern.
