That said, they should retire his jersey.
If he goes in the hall of fame, which is about a 50-50 chance, he'll do it as a Sun.
its a small ceremonial act to retire a knick.
This guy was phenomenal to watch in person! I have never seen someone elevate at the speed he was able to.
Is he HOF material? I don't know, likely not, but it would be cool.
I think baseball is the only sport where you go to hall representing a team.
I think your right. I kind of get why Amare is bound to NY as Dolan really stepped up and put a lot of faith in him. To Amare's credit, he really did bounce back but it was not sustainable and he just kept breaking down. Perhaps emotionally his sentiment is NY gave him two more years, $40mil more than PHX and valued him more than PHX did. Sarver ran the team as a business and made some mistakes, as did Kerr but they were moves that just did not pan out. Did not seem personal. Maybe AMare sees his future as being in NY and florida, where there is good deli to satisfy his Jewish DNA!
Suns should retire his number as he was a key player that defined an era of success.
Does it make sense as some articles are saying? I don't think they have really explained it to me other than he made the team relevant again, which is kind of over rated as to what was accomplished in the Amare-Melo Era. The 54 win season was a mirage built on a strong start by over the hill vets playing as if they were in their prime and strong finish on the back of Melo who carried the team to a great finish.
We won a playoff series. Not bad, but not that great.
Better days ahead.
I have no problem with Amare being part of the knick family. Personally I loved watching him play and enjoyed his embracing the city and the effort he put in.
