If he stays healthy this was a steal though its only a one year so that may cost us.

To be fair, he got the 55 as a rookie, right? I think the context is how he wishes he had been drafted so the 55 could have been for NYC not Wisconsin... wistfulness over the time lost that was wasted on Jordan Hill, haha...

Yeah ... I get it and it wasn't terrible but jennings always had the chucking issue. Want him to play smarter less selfish basketball.

To Jennings credit when he first got to Detroit it seemed like he was becoming a better passer but unfortunately he was still chucking and shooting horribly. I could live with him being around 52% in True shooting percent if he averaged around 8+ ast per 36 a game. I would like better efficiency but for $5m I could live with that.

Exactly!!

He must really want to be here to take that contract.

I was thinking he would go to Sacramento.

why??

I thought they would need a starter after Rondo left.

damn he wanted to come here badly, finally good to see players with a good mentality that want to be here.

it was a draft that d'antoni messed up royally.

Not Walsh?

Though I have to admit, I thought D'Antoni would be higher on Jennings because he played in Italy

But really you could tell they just had no idea what to do once Steph Curry was off the board.

Walsh is not the PG-oriented offense guy. D'Antoni is. Walsh would pick a big man almost all the time coming from the mantra "you cant teach size". And even there he's been messing up. He's mostly missed in drafting in his GM career.

D'Antoni should have gone to Dolan if Walsh didn't want to draft Jennings.

I see Jennings as Jamal Crawford... I mean they are very similar. Crawford just got a crazy contract. People are worried about next year. My hope is both these guys (Rose+Jennings) play well and we sign them both long term. A happy motivated Jennings is a nice piece. He could be a 6th man candidate every year, start for Rose when rest is needed, play in 3 guard alignments.. no reason he cant be part of the longer term solution.

The 1 year deal does 2 things:
1. Rose vs Jennings competing for minutes over the course of the season is a good thing for the Knicks.
2. We still keep ourselves open for Westbrook / Banana Boat Buddy.

I wish I had more confidence in the long term play of both Rose and Jennings. Feel like both good potential on the offensive side of the ball, especially considering the offense Hornacek likes to run, but can either defend at a level where you can see the Knicks making it to the finals? That's my biggest question after health for both.

they both have questions to answer this year for sure. Starting simply with playing well and showing they can stay reasonably healthy.

the defense is def a concern, but I do like that both are very quick players, and I think you can expect them to defend certain areas and concede others. Obviously this only works with high level help defense, but I think with Noah/KP we have those tools as well.

Mostly I am rooting for both because they have talent and can become part of a loaded team where we just bring bigtime firepower everynight

I do believe D'Antoni thought Hill would be better than he was. I also think they may have just tried to get the best trade asset there once their guy was off the board. Astoundingly, Jordan Hill was as high as 3rd in some mocks. I think they tried to go "best available" once Curry was off the board and it backfired big time.

I agree with both of these posts. This is the best of both worlds. We're in the running for Westbrook. We should know very quickly in FA if we have a shot at him. If it doesn't happen, we've had a year to evaluate Jennings and Rose and can decide to re-invest in them or move on in Free Agency.

So nice to have these things to worry about now with

Rose and Jennings ..........instead of ......... Calderone and Grant?

oh happy day
indeed.

Based on Hornacek's history, both as a player and a coach, he seems to be very comfortable having 2 playmaking guards on the floor at the same time.

In Phoenix it seemed as if at least 2 of Dragic/Thomas/Bledsoe, or later Bledsoe/Knight were on the floor together (when healthy) most of the time.

I wouldn't be surprised if he started and finished with Rose/Jennings on the floor, doing some O/D switching with Lee. But presuming both PG's get significant usage (30mpg+), we'd better feel pretty good about our 3rd PG. I reckon Sasha is serviceable, especially if Noah can act as an interior distributor and KP evolves from this standpoint.

I have a feeling we'll see some really fun "small" lineups (with our "small" 7'3" center) this season:

DRose
Jennings
CLee
Melo
KP

defensively, this would be pretty bad. To be able to keep those guys on the floor together they would need to be super efficient and this group is far from that.

KP is a plus defender, CLee is a plus defender, Melo is at worst an average defender... the backcourt could be rough. I haven't seen enough of Rose's and Jennings's defense to be sure about that part.

Rose and Jennings are bad defenders. KP is a plus defender but without Lopez, he may have a much harder time. Him and Lopez together were excellent defensively. Melo played better last year but he is still below average especially being a year older (I can give you average).

Lee is a plus defender.
