$94m.
Melo makes what $26? Rose $21. That is $47 mil or more than half of team payroll Be lunacy to make our bed and give Bazemore $16? No thanks.
No different than it ever was.
General refrain was sad to see him go given his roots and laments about what could have been if he never got injured but most see Lopez as a good addition with a team friendly contract that fits the financial landscape and gives them some room.
Room to do what?
Serious question.
Some fans are so fixated on flexibility, the don't seem to care what the flexibility is for.
Chicago, Houston, Boston... these teams have been chasing "flexibility" and big name free agents for years.
Boston can't pull a trade despite the "assets" and "flexibility" they have. Wake me when they sign someone of import.
Chicago has tried for EVERYONE in free agency and has come up with Pau Gasol.
Houston made a one year run but they're about to be Harden alone on an island.
yea... the bold. Is Bazemore a $16mm player? No... not really despite market dictating it. Does spending $16mm on Bazemore move the needle for the Knicks? Does he provide several key elements the Knicks sorely need to balance their roster? He certainly could.
If you want to be ultra conservative and play FA roulette next year as well fine.. that is a legit plan. If you want to make the playoffs this year and maximize what you have on the roster than spending $32mm on Bazemore and Noah makes a whole lot of sense.
I no longer do, but for 10+ years I worked for large banks. There is a culture that is very hard to fight through there when you want to get things done. That it is simply it is better to be mediocre and collect your paycheck than make a mistake. Mistakes get one fired. Doing nothing is "looking at risk and future opportunities"
This reminds me a lot of that.
At some point you gotta **** or get off the pot. If you think the salaries are bad now wait until next year. If its one year deals fine.. wait for next year.
I will say this.. if they are all reasonably healthy Melo/Rose/Noah/KP/Bazemore with the decent bench mentioned above is a pretty freakin good squad and could certainly be in the conference finals next year. Of course there are health risks with these players... but Bazemore and KP also show a ton of upside so its not like this is as good as it gets.
This strikes me as a core than can make a nice 3 year run. When it fizzles we can reboot. KP will be 24
