Gerald Green could be an option, he played well under hornacek and phil jackson said he wanted a rim attacker and that's green for sure

The Knicks will have 3 players who will have an above average usage of the ball. If not very high when it comes to Rose and Melo. Need to get a player at 2 guard between Melo at 3 and Rose at 1 who is highly comfortable at catch and shoot and running the floor quick.

Players who can shoot 3s and have shown the ability to run up the court and fill a wing or corner spot fast are the types I would focus on. Not sure Holiday or Galloway can be relied on as starters.

Players I've liked for this role who are free agents. 1- Allen Crabbe. 2- Troy Daniels.

I'm not at all in support of adding another high usage ball handling guard next to Melo/Rose. Won't work on offense. We could definitely use a quality combo guard, one that can backup Rose or fill in as starter if he needs rest or is injured as well as play some 2. A player like jerryd bayless comes to mind.

I actually agree with your SG options but disagree with you on the point about having another playmaker type on the team. I want another guard that can create with the ball so that we have a legit backup to Rose and don't lose that quality when he's on the bench or if he's injured. Remember that Horny was able to blend having ball dominant guards pretty well. A Jeremy Lin would be perfect. There are other guards that fit that bill as well.

I agree even if Rose balls out this team is still in desperate need for more playmakers. I loved JH's 2 PG system personally.

sure but I see him off the bench. Its possible we use the MLE on Lance and just bring LG back for the QO

The knicks do not have the MLE to use but they can offer him more money than the MLE while being able to go over the cap. The problem with going over the cap to sign guys like Gallo and Lance creates is it takes away from a max slot for next year.

hows that?

they are under the cap so they do not qualify. They only have the room exception($2.8m) just like last year.

I was thinking this before. Lance is solid in all areas they need to be solid given the slot he would be in. I may even prefer him to Fournier based on value.

All good teams have at least a splash of crazy, that type of player willing to do anything and back it up with some toughness. Clarkson may be decent as a plug and play 2 guard who can cover the point and Turner, Lee, Crawford are nice stop gap options if any of them would come on a budget contract. No way to Smith, Gordon, Waiters, Afflalo, Martin. Never impressed with Derozan. reminds me of a swingman version of Charles Smith. Wade on a 1 and 1 contract would be nice, but again, as Mark Schlereth would say the best ability is availability and Wade is getting up there.

Agree about Fournier. Was also interested in Beal, but the injuries are a concern. Apparently his defense has taken a step back as well.

I have a feeling we're gonna lose my guy L.Thomas cause i think he's gonna get a better offer then Phil wants to pay and have a feeling it will be Brooklyn that does it. I've been his biggest fan since we traded for him and love everything he brings to a team but i just don't see Phil bidding higher then what some other teams will be offering him. I sure as hell hope i'm wrong cause we need him.

Some of the SG's that aren't max guys i like are C.Lee, J.Bayless, S.Hill, J.Lin, K.Martin, J.Crawford, G.Temple and D.Waiters really showed improvement in the playoffs and some PG's i like are DJ.Augustine, S.Curry, M.Chalmers, T.Johnson and R.Sessions. Some of these guys i mentioned can play both guard positions but for SG i think we absolutely need a guy that can shoot it and play good defense.

I think OJ Mayo might be a solid fit next to say Noah/KP/Melo/Rose plus he may be undervalued right now coming off injury.

You are correct that the Knicks don't have the MLe, but they can offer Lance a contract equivalent to the MLe once they are over the cap, because of the Arenas provision I believe. I'm not sure if it is actually the Arenas provision, but I am sure they can offer that.

And I agree Lance is essential to bring back - off the bench, but an essential piece.

I think we need a guy that's not ball dominate and can impact the game without the ball....With that said, I wouldn't mind taking a shot at Lance. Lance has dog in him, can defend, rbds from the guard position and is arguably a better passer than Rose.

But, this is NY and NY likes to make a splash, so my gut tells me we end up with Crawford....

I like Lance - but I feel his best fit would be at SF. Maybe he could play some SG, but I think he's a SF in today's game.

His defense and passing would be a plus though... if he were locked in.

Shooting and defense. So Bazemore or Lee would be the best overall fit.

Agree. I'd like to see either Bazemore or Lee starting at the 2 this year. Lee would probably come cheaper I think?

Depending on what our FA big demands in salary, we could be looking at either 1) Dwight + Lee or 2) Noah + Bazemore.

Which would you rather have? Or is Lee + Noah a viable option? I don't think we can afford both Dwight and Bazemore.

I think Lee is our guy, with Dudley and Thomas resigned. Three good defenders filling out the roster and the last two guys can handle multiple positions and do all the little things that we need.

I don't like the idea of breaking the bank for guys like Batum or Bazemore, both of which are going to get paid.

Agree.

Rose
Lee
Melo
KP
Noah

is not a line up I thought we could have had 4 months ago. I'll take it and roll with our chances this year and see where we land.

2 more decent options. Bazemore is late bloomer and I wouldn't mind taking a shot at him. He's a battler, he defends and is a pretty good athlete.

Courtney Lee. 3&D, lots of speed, playoff tested.

Crabbe is restricted, he and Bazemore are too pricy we can get similar production from vets at a lower price.

Green was awful last year, he could be had a bargain probably. OJ Mayo was pretty bad too but we know these guys have talent.

How in the hell is Batum NOT on this list!!! I believe he is actually the team's number one choice unless of course Melo's "Wining & Dining / Champagning & Campaigning" of KD somehow works a miracle. Batum would fill the deficiencies that Rose presents and easily become our Draymond type player that makes the whole offense go. Plus, I would give anything to hear Clyde say "Batuming & Booming" or "The Doom of Batum"
