As you know unless he's on your 15 man roster, you aren't really grooming anyone. You're grooming them for everyone.

We had only 14 men on roster last year. Wasted a spot. Not 1 player in the world worth developing

Of their Westchester Knicks roster, who has stuck with the team?

If there was some gem from Westchester who never got added to the Knicks 15 man roster and was snatched away by another team, you'd have an argument.

You're right because we only have a bunch of 25 year old players who were only pretty good in college. I haven't seen any 19 yo 6-7 McDonald all Americans who made sports center several times on their roster have you?

Well no.

The vast majority of those gets drafted, of course.

You got it. So take advantage that he didnt

Maybe there is a reason the other 29 teams aren't either.

That's the thought process of a follower not a leader

Sure, that defines Phil Jackson to a 't.'

He takes his direction from others.

Let's go with that.

Of course Jones didn't hire an agent (on purpose), so he clearly is leaving his options open to return to UNLV if he was not drafted, assuming his eligibility is cleared up.

So perhaps instead of couching the fact the Knicks haven't signed him to a contract less than 48 hours since draft as an indictment, maybe consider there are thing we don't know.

No team regarded him worth a 1st or 2nd round pick.

Maybe because of that fact, he plans to try to return to school.

You clearly just read up on him in the last 5 minutes so let me help you. He CANNOT go back to school he opted to stay in the draft and once you opt to stay in you are in regardless of hiring an agent or not.

I stand corrected.

The present DL system does not allow you to retain the rights of a player who might be playing well and gets approached by another team. Until you have the right to control a developmental player who you did not draft and is not under contract to you, even though he plays on your DL team, it is going to be difficult to give a player like Jones the time he needs to develop.

I feel strongly that this should be changed. A 3rd or 4th round added to the draft where you obtain the right to control a prospect for a year or two (maybe he is like a restricted FA) while he plays on your DL team or if he goes to Europe.

Jones seems to be a guy who really needs to work on his game- especially his shot- and he should have stayed in college. I assume his people told him that this was a weak draft, unlike next year, and this might give him a better chance to get picked higher in the draft. I guess the guys who told him this were wrong.

Would I check out a guy like this in SL though- Yup... But you have to wonder why no other team took a chance on him in the draft or signed him as a UFA.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

I dont believe that is true at all... there is some time period a team has rights. Thanasis wasnt on the 15 man and he was still a player only we had rights to, at least the first year

Clarence Gaines drafted him we had his rights like early thansis laberdyie. Jones we'd have to ideas a roster spot but given the fact that we have zero in the pipeline and the reality that we only need 14 slots it would be a savvy move for the future

A lot of times teams give a guy a partially guaranteed to contract to pad their salary because they make so little in the d league. The Knicks did that last year with Atkins and the sg they had there for a while. Anyone nba team can sign them but if they are brought to camp the Knicks can protect them from the d league draft. Minimal risk for the nba team.
