You're gonna have to explain why you feel this way about the deal. I don't see it being "God-awful". It seems extremely strategic IMO. It looks like there is an awful lot of planning going on for flexibility going forward.
We just gave away one of the better value contracts in the league that is also attached to one of the league's better rim protectors with an emerging offensive game in Robin Lopez. We also gave away a promising young role player in Jerian Grant. And for what? Derrick Rose? The possibility that someone will want our cap space in 2017?
We keep making the same type of dumb decisions that end in the same result. Fundamentally speaking, this is no different from the Tyson Chandler trade or the Andrea Bargnani trade where we give away assets/better value in the hopes that the "benefit" of financial flexibility will save the day at some distant juncture in time. We need to learn that sometimes a bird in hand is worth two in the bush and build a proper team slowlly and steadily. There is no fast-track to the top and this deal wreaks of the type of desperstion that runs counter to that spirit.
Keep hating on this trade but when you calm down and really look at it it really isn't a bad deal for us at all.
No one's angry. I'm use to this nonsense by now. It amazing me, however, that you are not because we've done this same trade time and time again. We gave up the better asset (Robin Lopez) and we gave up the better young guy (Jerian Grant). What did we get in return other than cap flexibility...which we had in 2010....had in 2011....had in 2015...have in 2016 and will have again in 2017? Care to tell me what we did over this period that was "franchise-changing" in a positive way?
Robin Lopez is an asset? LOL! 10 Points 7 boards and a block a game for 4 years @ 54 million was a bad contract to begin with.
I don't get why people are so upset at including Grant. You'd think he was putting up Jeremy Lin #'s LOL!
If Rose doesn't work out we free up over $20 million plus Lopez's $13+ million per year.
Leaving the team as is is another 30 win season. If Rose can improve from where he was last year we're much better off.
Right, because traditional stat-stuffers are the only players worth a damn. But I suppose I should be floored by Rose's 16-3-5 despite him having the ball in his hands significantly more. And I guess I should also overlook the fact that he only shoots 29% from 3, only gets to the line 3 times a game along with 3 turnovers, an AST% of 25%, only has a TS% of 48% and a WS/48 of .009. And I also guess that in this bizzaro-world, Rose missing 40% of the games he's been eligible to play in (since his injuries started) is a good thing. But that Robin Lopez sure is a ****ing bum!
And mind telling me what we'll be doing with all that cap space we're freeing up that we couldn't do with the $30 million we currently have available?
