I was never a Wroten fan, but I think this has as much to do with his injury as it does with how he plays.

But isn't Rose a similar player, as far as his multiple injuries to the same knee and both are attacking guards. I know Rose is better, but they both have similar weaknesses. At least Wroten still have some growth. Rose has reached his peak.

I think this move is more about building a superteam, which is why it doesn't makes since right now. This is just the first wave. Who's next Wade?

Rose
Melo
KP

If healthy, thats a nice 3 to have. You can't double team all three.

Wroten tore his acl twice in the same knee and had to stop his come back last year to try and make the knee stronger. I think Rose's meniscus issue was in the other knee.

I'd love to hear an explanation on this. It couldn't be a move for more cap room, right? And this kid was on cloud 9 only days ago, talking about being the Knicks next starting PG. Would he talk like that if he wasn't healthy or at least feeling good about his health and chances of making it back??

Bottom line -- minus Grant now, we need viable PG depth more than ever. Derrick Rose doesn't change anything -- in fact, a good part of me suddenly feel less secure about our PG position. Who knows what Rose has left, no Grant, and now no Wroten... Still need to sign someone who can ably run the point (Bayless? Seth Curry?) and I still like targeting one of these young PGs late 1st/early-mid 2nd round: Cat Barber, Demetrius Jackson, Yogi Ferrell, Kay Felder, Marcus Paige, Gary Payton II... Or sign Corey Walden who'd come dirt cheap. Walden's a guy I consider an upgrade combo guard over Galloway--Walden has a better handle, much better drive & finish ability, he's as good a shooter if not better and has more PG skills. Wouldn't even be sacrificing any of LG's defense--Walden's been known as a defender going back to college. Better version of Galloway in about every facet of the game. This would be a great off-the-radar signing imo.

Hell...I'm not a Rose fan, but I can't even mention Wroten in the same sentence as Rose.

In Wroten you had a limited player with what may be a worse injury than anticipated. Have to figure he's been seen working out by the Knicks.

Man, if you really think about Rose--he's gotta be the furthest type of PG to what we believe Phil Jackson prefers -- this guy's injury prone up the wazoo, extremely ball dominant, not a great outside shooter. I wonder if this mainly had to do with freeing up that additional cap space for next year and beyond more than anything else. Phil won't sell it like that but I really wonder if that was the primary motivation for this deal and not just a silver lining.

fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Its not overreaction, all I am hoping for is no "you snooze you lose" mentality from the front office

Honest question: is Rose really a PG? Or is he an undersized SG?

Our plan to upgrade at SG should remain unaffected. My number 1 guy here is Solomon Hill. I think he's AWESOME value on a contract in the $7-9mm/year range. 6'7" 225, strong, smart, deceptively quite skilled overall--coming into his own offensively and he plays good defense. Standout defense at times.. I can only hope Phil's considering this guy.

The one good thing about having Rose -- along with Melo and KP, you would think it makes the team that much more attractive for FAs now. Maybe now a guy like Solomon Hill truly considers coming here to play alongside Rose in the backcourt.

WOW! This tells me that Hornacek has a HUGE voice in the direction of this team. It sounds like maybe he didn't want Wroten but preferred other guards. I'm assuming they have other targets in FA, the Draft and UDFA's as well. This will be a very telling summer as it's already started off with a huge BANG. I was curious to see how Grant and Wroten performed, but based on these moves my guess is that Horny was not impressed!!!

Hornacek wants guards that can shoot at least a little, well at least we know Wroten and Grant both cannot do that. I had hope for Wroten myself since he's so "slithery" but Hornacek does not want any one on 5 ball, it seems like.

I wonder if his instructions to Rose are going to be to take the best shot instead of trying to take a AND-1.

Not surprised. Kept saying his injury is tough to come back from for a while

We don't know that the injury had anything to do with this move. It's actually more likely that Horny wants better shooters. In the end he was on a manageable contract for this very reason. No penalty at all for moving on. The more important question is who are the Knicks targeting now? They clearly have some other guards in mind. It should be a very eventful draft and Free Agency.

He can't shoot of the dribble, so sg is never a option for him

You say that but Phil won championships with injured Ron Harper.
Derrick Rose isn't Ron Harper but the precedent is there nonetheless

I keep thinking they go Small ball in their starting unit

Rose
Fournier (or Crabbe)
Evan Turner
Melo
KP

Its not a great rebounding team but it would be really hard to stop offensively.
