Rose is a shell of his former self. He is not remotely the same explosive, dynamic, MVP type player he once was a couple years ago. Multiple injuries have taken away a lot of his athleticism and he will never be the same physical player again ( kind of like Penny's career).
Jerian Grant showed great flashes when he finally got a chance to start last year and would excel in Hornacek's up-tempo, guard oriented offense. He possesses the explosiveness that Rose once had.
The only reason I like this trade is Rose's 20 million comes off the books after next year and I was never a huge Rolo fan and his 12 million, long term deal is gone, too. Jose Calderon off this team is addition but subtraction and his 8 mill are gone. I think we are better fiscally after this trade for the future, which is not bad.
I just don't like throwing in Grant as part of the deal. Phil may live to regret that. I hope they see Wroten playing at a high level now and having regained his athleticism and that's what prompted throwing in Grant to make this deal happen.
