Isola is a terrible but Im surprised at Lupica!!! He really flushed himself down to the lower ledge.

Problem is these harsh "Snits" on twitter do get eyeballs and that's the game now. The negative slant is more admired than being optimistic.
Like Nalod has said before, "Anger sells"!

I get the feel that their whole staff took a turn after the row of layoffs within the past year. Even Stefan Bondy, son to long time writer Flip, has gone from fairly mid mannered to downright troll-like, and it's very mechanical from him, like he is over trying. Must be a directive from above, not sure if it's particular to the Knicks or particular from this newspaper.

They are fighting not in print, but online now. And we all reading multiple articles vs. back in the day one or two perhaps. Growing, up, I was Newsday and NY times. Daily News or POst were always rags but good sports sections.
Beat reporters were trusted and were part of the players lives. Now, Players are guarded and can't really let them in. Because of this divide, stories are more "Opinions" than verifiable sources.

Phil, and I would imagine most team leaders around the league have to operate in secret to keep a competitive edge. In this case, He really wanted to do his coaching search and evaluation out of the limelight. To some degree, other teams do this all the time. Lakers sort of fired Scott and hired Luke pretty much under the radar. Joerger situation was one that went on for months and when he was fired, SAC, who had been interviewing guys for a while signed him in no time. Seems obvious in hindsight it was all orchestrated for some time. That's there prerogative. If Rambis was asked if he wanted the job, perhaps he knew he was not going to get it, but he can still say he wants it and not really be lying. Phil went on vacation and lambasted by media, when in fact he went to visit his sick brother, maybe took a few days to chill, but really was working and active. IT was not in the public eye.

In hindsight, Looks like Hornacek was his guy all along and Jeff's name only came up at the very end. Was the rest of it a "smoke screen"? Who knows. We don't know if Hornacek made the rules, interviewd elsewhere but requested it not be broadcasted, and he might have had to think about life in NY and all that goes with it. He is married. He is likely financially OK, so its not about the money.

In the end, we should be happy Phil got his guy. I recall the debacle that Isiah created when he wanted Fratello and they could not agree on a price so Fratello's manager suggested Lenny who would agree to the money and Isiah hired him. Or Bringing in MDA and Walsh and then Dolan basically calling the shots. OR The larry brown experience!

A shame we lost Howard Beck. To be honest I like Chris Herring now from the WSJ- he has no agenda and is fair, doesn't pretend to be a fan but doesn't hate either. Martin, can you start linking to his articles on your mainpage?

Now he is paint a picture of dissension in MSG.

If you go to the article it is time stamped 8:31 tonight.

Its more interesting and it sells. Fans eat it up, as its easy to funnel anything to Dolan and Melo. They been doing it for yrs.

Melo gets max, that means Dolan forced Phil to do it.
Lin signs poison pill, that means Melo forced Lin out.
Tyson gets traded, that means Melo forced Tyson out.

Phil exposing the media the way he just has should be an eye opener. Probably won't be though.

+1
Not with the fan base this town has. Ignorant negativity sells, and it's the press pass of credibility now.

why is when some one pretty much tells like it is, and it's not a fluff piece, they consider idiots and negative. It's the exact same thing Marv albert was fired for, The team was bad, he let be known through out the telecast, AND HE WAS THEN LET GO.

It's funny because when you talk to the most average fan who's not on message boards and reading every article on the internet, they feel the same way these articles read. Not everyone is going to be as optimistic has some die hards, they want to see it to believe it.

I have no problem with critical pieces, however I do take issue with agenda pieces- it's on record that the NY daily news is running a highly critical agenda as they are trying to get Dolan to buy/merge with them- the owner even told Dolan all the hate would stop if he agreed to the deal. Isola lies, blasts Phil for not doing something, then when he does he blasts him for doing the opposite. Once in a while he cuts the crap and does a worthwhile piece.

You do understand there is a difference between reporting or commenting on poor performance and a negative opinion piece projecting the ineptitude of the team in the future. These guys are becoming spiteful since Phil remains an unpredictable wildcard to the media.

There is was a narrative that was often used. How Dolan, Mills, Melo were rejecting Phil's "preferred" choice of Rambis which is why Phil "couldn't" hire Rambis. How Phil was taking vacation in order to avoid doing a coaching search as well play games with Dolan, Mills, Melo in order to get what he wanted. How Phil was going to step down and leave for the Lakers. How the interview process was just for show and how Rambis already got the job.

I am still waiting for the actual facts for these narratives to be presented. Well its probably to late for that now. Yet these narratives were presented as facts( or "calling it like it is").

Yeah and IMO the stuff these guys were writing on twitter were even worse. Just go thru Isola's twitter feed and it's unreal how much he rips on Phil and the Knicks. Just tweet after tweet with nasty jokes and disses. Check out ESPN and how many videos they have with their commentators breaking on Phil and the Knicks.
