Is there anything to read into as to why Carmelo missed the triangle practice / seminar?

Knicks will most likely have to take a slower and more long term approach to contending.

If MELO doesn't already understand this it's his fault. Phil has been signaling this for a while. Phil's been adding more youth than older vets who can help MELO win right away. How can Phil convince the elite FA's to ditch better situations to come to a rebuilding team? The odds of it happening are slim. Phil will try but he has to be prepared for it not to happen. So MELO will have a choice to make. Stick with the team and a slower rebuild or ask for a trade.

That's not exactly true. Phil has added older vets left and right. He even adds older rookies. Now will he change his win now aproach to lure free agents in or will he go for a top draft pick, only time will tell.

First off it's silly to quibble over young vets under 30 and rookies when talking about the youth on this team. I wasn't only talking about the players actually on the roster this year either. Some of the old guys won't be back and we'll be adding younger players most likely.

I don't really consider vets 26 and older that young but okay. It really doesn't matter. There will be roster turnover and some of those players may or may not be back. Hopefully, Seraphin is gone and Wroten might not even make the team but we'll see. There is also a chance that Early won't be back. Even before the gunshot he was in the dog house but maybe they give him another chance. Williams and Thomas are free gents and could get expensive to bring back. Thomas can stay off the cap up to 104% x the league's avg salary. If the knicks try to match a higher salary offer from another team they'd dip into the cap space.

There are so few young UFAs this year so unless they can get some RFAs the roster will be filled by veteran retreads.

You can't win with a roster fun of green players. You also can't expect to attract high impact sub 23 players to sign here. They are rare aND restricted anyway.

What we need are good players. We can't be choosey as far as their date of birth. I believe Phil and Steve Mulls have a list of players they want from all outlets. We need the guys that will be here to know what they ate doing enough to help the new players when they get here.

At this point we're in the dog days until the draft comes along. Chill

Well hey Phil's contract will be up and he will be 76 years old.

A vmart, what exactly do any of those teams have that we want?

They have what we want or if they don't a three way deal is always possible. Got to keep options open. I know Miami has players that the Knicks could use for example Winslow and Dragic would be a start. Cleveland may not have a player we would like but they have players that other teams do and a three way deal that give players and picks is always possible. Same with Clippers maybe a straight deal with the Clippers for Griffin or again a trade with other teams involved giving back picks and players.

They are so many options that open up for the Knicks. I hate to see Melo go but this is about the future path of the Knicks going forward. Getting younger possibly a lottery pick or picks. By no means would I go Philly route that some here think. I would still target Veteran players in FA like Gasol, Turner to go with a youth movement. Trading Melo gives the best route for the Knicks to get better for a longer period that extends possibly for a decade or so.

It's just too many hurdles to jump, most of those teams are veteran teams that aren't going to mortgage their future and depth for melo. Not to mention bringing on a 25 million dollar salary.

The best course of action (with melo)is to build a winning foundation for the next 3 yrs, let melo help develop KP and grant, be creative and add pieces. melo has a player option in his last yr.

Trading melo at this juncture, you will lose all the way around because he has the upper hand. I always said, Melo won't win a ring until he's a role player like KG became when he won 1 with boston.

I think Phil has been adding the type of players that we can win now with while them also being young enough to still be helping us 2/3 or even 4 years from now.

We won't lose all the way around trading Melo cause of the young pieces we'd get in the draft or young players we'd get for him but it would definitely set us back on winning or making a playoff run for another at least 2/3 years. I'm a Syracuse and Knicks fan so i'm as big a Melo fan as there is and even though i'd be just fine with him staying i also realize that what we could get for him in a trade would help our future so for the right return package i'd be fine with trading him but it would have to be a good return or i'd just keep him. All those people that don't think we could get much for him are crazy cause there will be teams willing to give up a nice package for him with some combo or draft picks and young players.

Hurdles? No there are no hurdles this is very simple and easy. The teams that want Melo are going to be teams willing to acquire him as they have windows of opportunity to win Championships and they see Melo as the guy to get them there. Now if the deal doesn't fit the standard that Phil puts in it he doesn't have to do the deal.

I personally think it's a bad idea to keep Melo you want to get assets. I don't think that Melo should have to go through a building process at this stage in his career.

Only way to find out is for him to remove the NTC. There were already reports that Ainge inquired about Melo. That LeBron is interested in adding Melo. Melo is going to a team that his friend s have control of decision making. Pat Riley rarely passes on top talent. Once again Melo is a damn good player why wouldn't team inquire and be interested especially teams trying to get over the top.

Plenty of teams would be interested.

I continue to think LA Clippers is the number 1 spot.

I do sort of think Melo will let the summer play out and if a trade happens it'll be at next year's deadline - Feb 2017. I think that is when the Phil/Melo strain will come to a head if it does. Phil has an option in March 2017, or right after the season. Melo may try to either force a trade for himself or force Phil out if things aren't going well next season.

I think for this summer Melo will try to be patient and give Phil a chance. Though I sort of have a feeling he will be disappointed by the Free Agency haul. We're gonna get some pieces, but I don't think they'll be the pieces Melo wants.

Phil has kept some older vets but on very cheap short term contracts and clearly he's been looking for young players who can replace them. When we say yoiung that doesn't have to mean 19 or 20 years old. A 24-26 year old player is still young. We'd be talking about having them for their most productive years. That's the point. As for "the roster being filled with Vet Retreads" as you suggest that's not likely to happen. At least not in the way you seem to be intimating. Already the bulk of the roster is filled with younger players. My guess is Phil will look for the best younger vets he can get, which is only logical given the presence of KP.

On a side note, i'm betting Wroten makes the team and becomes an important part of the team. He does enough of the things we desperately need and it's all up to how hard he works to learn the offense and defense and improve his jumper.

This would be a case where Phil would need to sell high. Other than Pablo and Hardaway, he has moved guys out because they needed to go regardless of the return to some extent. With the ntc, I am not sure what the teams that Melo would consider could offer.

well the pablo and hardaway returns were much better than expected. For pablo we got multiple 2nds which was good for a guy who barely played at that time. Obviously we got grant for timmy which was better than i thought we would get. Melo obviously is a all star so we would get a good package regardless i think
