Assuming Afflalo and Williams opt out.
Batum will probably get max and Gasol is old. Everyone will get overpaid this offseason.
Gasol would be a 2 year contract, to help increase the playoff chances in Melo's window. Lopez is good, but the Triangle operates best when it's Center can pass and score in the paint, as well as step out and shoot the jumper. Pau's skills are incredibly good even now. He fits. With Porzingis focusing on his defense this summer (according to him) he should be able to help more defensively. RoLo off the bench gives us one of the best front court rotations in the league. If we are able to keep Lance Thomas at 5$M a year, a rotation of Gasol/Porzingis/Melo/Lopez/Thomas would be outstanding.
Batum I agree likely outprices himself from what we'd want to pay. The one thing for Batum is that he's a great fit for what the Knicks like to do and what they want to do. He's got a similar set of skills and attributes to Pippen, not nearly the same level obviously, but he can pass, drive, defend and even shoot the 3. He's capable to play the 2, 3 or 4. Very versatile player. If he's smart he knows that this is a great situation for him. There's no way I'm interested in seeing the Knicks pay Batum 100$M over 4 years or anything like that. $72M over 4 years is a good offer and he's got to think about choosing a place where he can stay 3-4 years in. Depends what way he looks at it. Certainly teams like the Lakers can offer him more and maybe even his current team the Hornets give him more. Option B is Evan Turner. Who gives you similar things to what Batum does, without the same level of athleticism and without a 3 point shot. Turner wouldn't be cheap either, I think he would be getting something like $50M over 4 years.
