I think if you want him back you have to spend more money. His play improved, he fills a valuable role on the team, and the cap is increasing dramatically. He will opt out and he probably gets a substantial raise. I don't know if the Knicks sign him but I would think he will get 8-10 mil this summer wherever he goes.

If everyone has sense, they'll split the difference to accommodate needs and concerns on both sides.

Say . . . $7.0 million/year for next 2 years with another player option the second year.

Williams: increase in guaranteed money for 2 additional years, safe place to continue developing skills and market value, option to renegotiate or walk away if unhappy.

Knicks: chance to see if Williams continues to develope Triangle savvy in critical 2nd year.

I am suspect of Melos ability to play 38 minutes a night over 82. I think Melo will have one injury or another and break down as he already has. Thus Both Thomas and Williams are worth paying.

I don't expect MELO to play 38 mpg over the rest of his career. It's only logical that as the team around him improves his minutes will come down. He actually held up well this year and the trouble came when he tripped on the ref. He actually started looking stronger towards the end of the season.

If DWILL returns I expect he could see his minutes expanded. I think the Knicks have more confidence in him now.
