True. But it sorta seems like Melo also wants to stay.

I posted this for the crowd here who claims there is no reason to keep Melo.

yeah there are plenty of reasons to keep melo. i just wish he would make up his damn mind

Make up his mind about what? Hasn't Melo indicated over and over and and over again that he wants to stay?

I think he will see how the summer goes... maybe next season at the trade deadline if things are still grim, that might be the time.

Possibly this summer if the free agent thing is a total strike out. But I think he will give Phil a chance to grab some guys and maybe recruit himself.

I kind of agree that he has only provisionally made up his mind. He'll stay for now. And I can't say I blame him.

We aren't gonna win a championship with Melo, but he can help develop KP into a true superstar. By KP's 5th or 6th year, he can be ready to win.

Look at how Anthony Davis's development has stalled in New Orleans. Look how that team has stalled.

Rebuilding isn't easy and it isn't a sure bet.

Melo is a pretty sure bet for the next few years and he's helping KP.

This is why I think it makes the most sense to keep him and focus on trying to develop the back court via free agency this off-season. Don't trade any picks - get good young players in the draft in 2017, 2018, and beyond.

But this is a very strong reason to keep Melo in the fold to me.

i agree with you bro. great example with new orleans and anthony davis - not having another superstar, let alone a couple really quality vets there has really stalled davis' progression. look at the sixers, they actually put elton brand on the bench as assistant just so the team had some veteran leadership for their young guys. melo is still a good player, we're not going to get a whole lot for him in trade, kp respects the hell out of him, i see no reason to trade him, unless of course we're blown away by an offer.

wouldn't a guy like Andre Miller do the same thing for vet min?

Or a Boris Diaw?

The difference is immense.

You sure you aren't pooping in my thread?

I don't think so. You have a guy that absorbs most of the media bs, is the focus of other teams defense, opens things up for his teammates etc. that isn't easy to find. Do you think Miller or Diaw fix things for A D in Nola?

Good thread though I wouldn't phrase it as reason not to trade so much as a reason to appreciate his contribution.

It's great that he wants to play here. Should be a rule for all of our players

He has changed his game at teams request though more growth is needed

And he seems to genuinely enjoy playing with and mentoring KP

I think he needs to weigh all of that against any desire he might have to win a championship

This is good, because you want them to have that sort of relationship and no jealousy. While Porzingis will likely get better with time, Melo with his age will likely wane in value and play on the court. It is very important KP shows massive respect to Melo like he has, and Melo not get in the way of KP's development.

So far in year 1 it has gone exactly like that. Melo loves the hype and justifies it for KP, unlike with some other players he played with in the past. KP continues to vouch for Melo as the man in NY and shows him mass respect.

Yeah, I'm sure we could all respect Boris Diaw or a first ballet HOF like Andre Miller exactly the same way. Or even DLee! He might even come here for less than the vet's minimum! KP could glean all types of valuable life lessons from someone who actually knows Jeremy Lin!

Hi,
Melo has a NTC.

Have a nice day.
