There's even talk he could offer to coach home games next season, with Rambis coaching the road games. It's an offer Lakers' owner Jerry Buss once flatly rejected, but could be an interesting compromise to hiring Rambis as the head coach next season.

sure is... i had to re-read that part of the article 3 times to make sure i was reading it correctly lol. that would be great.. or even if we hired luke walton, let him be an assistant and learn under phil during home games and have him coach the team during road games.

That won't happen. Luke isn't gonna want to come to a team to sit as an assistant when he'll have more than one choice for a head coaching gig with the Lakers being the top one.

Just do the math on the difference. If he wants to be an assistant or associate head coach, he's doing that right now in Golden State. What he would leave Golden State for is a head coach job.

who is saying he'd be an assistant coach? i could see the knicks hiring him as associate head coach and paying him at the same level he'd get for a head-coaching job.

I don't see Walton leaving GSW just yet. He's 36 and working for a once in a lifetime team. Curry is only 28 as of yesterday. Jordan didn't win one until he was 30, Curry may have two rings by 28.

The coaching jobs will be there when GSW finishes their run. If I were Walton, I'd stay at least for a possible 3peat next season. But, seriously, if that team has a chance at a 4peat or a 5peat? Why leave? He'd still be under 40 and could get a headcoaching gig whenever and wherever he wanted. It's not like the Knicks job is a once in a lifetime chance - we hire a new coach every fricking season.

The team GSW has is a once in a lifetime opportunity in the sport. You only get one crack at something like that. It's insane to leave it. Well, weirdly, Kerr has been on a team like that before... coincidence?

I'd be curious to see how Kerr's back responds and if he wants the gig long term.
Walton could be man in GSW if Kerr is thinking three and done.

Verrrrrrry interesting tidbit.

That would be amazing.

IF Phil is truly in win now at all cost mode to prove that he doesn't suck, the smartest move he could make as the Pres. would be to come down as a coach to attack FAs to come to NY. He might even get them to take less. One negative would be the possibility of AA opting in his deal instead of opting out which would hurt the cap space.

He would likely coach in the off-season and training cap all the way up to preseason then slip away after the season comes along leaving Rambis to do his dirty work.

When Phil had that presser a couple of days ago he said that they have players that will be free agents at the end of the year that he wants back. I wonder which players he's talking about?

I think Phil and Rambis really like DWill, I'm pretty sure they were talking about him. Not sure they want to pay Afflalo again but we'll see.

FAs to bring back are probably Gallo, Lance, and D.W.

best thing the can do is stretch calderon, and move AA to the bench, and focus on a back court in FA

Yeah i was thinking he was talking about Gallo and L.Thomas. DW and Afflalo aren't worth more than they're getting now so if they opted out i wouldn't sign either for more than the $5 (DW) and $8 (AA) they're getting now and i wouldn't re-sign AA at all if he opted out. I just hope he isn't talking about wanting AA back cause we need a better 2 guard than him.

I think they're gonna use the stretch provision on Jose regardless of what else they do. It's time for Jose to go.

Glad Melo is saying this - Phil absolutely SHOULD interview other candidates.
