We've all said it and I think Melo is showing it to be true - he was never really a guy who relied on his athleticism to score. He should be able to age somewhat gracefully as a player.

Yes.....But non basketball fans wouldn't understand this. You can't base everything on age. Rose for example, is breaking down early, and he's only 20 something. He's all explosiveness. He's the type of player that will retire early. Westbrook is another type....I know these types very well, because I'm in that same category. But I was a good shooter, which is why at 43 I can still kill almost anybody I face, eventhough I'm now inches below the rim (used to play above the rim).

But if Melo continues to play SF, I think that hurts his prime years. You have to use more first step /explosive moves to get by a quicker and agile SF. But against PF, Melo needs fewer hesitation moves during ISO's. And when they try to put a SF at the PF position, it reduces their team ability to rebound.

I wish KP was ready to play center......Then we can move Rolo to the 6th man role next season, and extend Melo's career a little longer at PF, so he can finish his contract strong, and not wear down his knees too fast. He's still killing now, because he's one of the greatest offensive threats in NBA history. But you can see he has problems against defensive SF's like Crowder and others.

Totally agree. But one thing about moving Melo to PF - at this rate, I don't think teams would be afraid to still just matchup even smaller and keep a guy like Crowder on Melo at the 4. There are certain teams that don't have this type of player, but more and more teams seem to have that jack of all trades combo forward who is out there to defend and hit an occasional three from the corner.

Hopefully next season KP is stronger and a more reliable go-to option. And we have a reliable guard or two or three in the backcourt. That'll make things easier for Melo and allow him to extend his career.

+1
Imagine, an "adjusted" Melo "extending" his "career". Horrors for some on here!

I hope martin and Andrew have child proof locks on the windows.

To me, Melo has become a slightly less dominant scorer, but a much more dominant player. It still baffles me why some think he's declining. His age holds too much weigh around here.

He finally realized after 13 seasons, that there's such a thing as pass as an option, instead of shoot.

all these plays look like crap because everyone knows to put 9 guys on melo because he needs to get the ball and he needs to take that last shot regardless of how mad of a shot it is.

fate forced the ball into the enemies hands (anyone not melo (jose)) and the rest is history.

Nope, I think has you get older, you stop relying on talent to win, and start using your brains. Thatw hat we have wanted this guy to do for yrs, even before he became a knick, now that he's making the transition, people want to see more bully ball.

Maybe he is realizing he's not getting the calls, he's taking to much punishment on the knees and body, and it's not resulting in W's

He's a better rebounder, passer, and defender this year than he has been in his entire career (and in less minutes.) His decline in scoring is slightly attributed to his slow start because of coming back from injury. He's averaging 25/8/4 this month and shooting over 50%. Averaged 22/10/5 last month. He has been every bit as good of a player now than we was previously in my opinion. He has just altered his game so he's dominating in a slightly different way. He can still score 30+ whenever he wants to, in the same ways he used to. Zero decline in his game.

Yeah, but he's 30 something! Surely there's some 24 year old out there who could do all that at less than half the price!

he's had a good march (7 games) but his february was possibly his worst.

right now, I am looking at mainly his shooting which is what I worry is the problem. His other parts of his game are much much better (now that he is finally playing with "real" talent).

Yeah but that coincides with the ankle injury in January. Coming back from that playing 49 and then 42 minutes in consecutive games caused problems with his surgery. He seems to be back now.

His age holds too much weigh around here.

wait! you don't think that he has declined (at least in his play this year)?

He's a better rebounder, passer, and defender this year than he has been in his entire career (and in less minutes.) His decline in scoring is slightly attributed to his slow start because of coming back from injury. He's averaging 25/8/4 this month and shooting over 50%. Averaged 22/10/5 last month. He has been every bit as good of a player now than we was previously in my opinion. He has just altered his game so he's dominating in a slightly different way. He can still score 30+ whenever he wants to, in the same ways he used to. Zero decline in his game.

he's had a good march (7 games) but his february was possibly his worst.

right now, I am looking at mainly his shooting which is what I worry is the problem. His other parts of his game are much much better (now that he is finally playing with "real" talent).

Yeah but that coincides with the ankle injury in January. Coming back from that playing 49 and then 42 minutes in consecutive games caused problems with his surgery. He seems to be back now.

I hope you are right.

Like I said, to me at this point its all about health and shooting percentages. I have no other issues with his play aside from the horrendous end of game shot selection.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

True leadership and inspiring body language after your teammate does something wonderful. You can't teach that enthusiasm!

It's his last professional game against Kobe in a otherwise meaningless game since we aren't making the playoffs. What is he leading them to.

No one seemed ecstatic compared to when JR would hit those,

As said in the game thread, Calderon wasnt trying to show up Kobe in his last game against the Knicks by making a big deal which I thought was classy. You can find him celebrating in games earlier in tbe season.

I know Jose wasn't trying to show up Kobe, for all his glaring weaknesses and shortcomings, having no class isn't one of them.

Melo on the other hand....HE WAS INDEED SHOWING UP Calderon!

Hands your hips bitchy fit like you read about.

If this does not prove that your just nothing but a hating hack...
Bro, give it up. Even the Laker feed talked about Melo and Kobe looking at each other after the play and smiling. Nothing close to the stuff your spinning. Seriously, why the hate?

Nice shot by Jose. Good win. Melo took over and showed to be still elite in last three possesions. Showed he is one of few that can still be at a different level in the NBA. And he is on your NY Knicks. Sorry it ruined your night.

still scares me that deep down I think that melo was damn pissed. He called for the ball and did not get it. Winning shminning. When melo says gimme the damn ball you give me the damn ball. Capiche my peasant teammates?

Its like him going up to take the technical while jose missed 5 foul shots in his career. Make sense? Only if you want it to.

afflalo did the same thing a few games ago when galloway took the last shot. comes across as bitchy to say the least.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Lot of psychological speculation. How much do you charge an hour? Lol. The guy just hit three clutch shots for our favorite team and we are talking about something that takes a bit of hate filled pseudo speculation just cuz? (Not that I think Chuck is totally unbiased) But what the hell is this, a message board? Dont think i will take such a pesamistic path. If I did I would have to start calling myself "Marc Berman" and eating lots of Donuts and fudge cookies. (He likes fudge)
